Buy it! It's a copy of the 2009 R41 or 2008 sure someone will pitch in. Not tried a slant yet to compare but the fatip is now my best shaving razor!

You know how there's a rash of metal thieves stealing fixtures from building and industrial sites to sell to scrap dealers? They always go for the brass and copper, and never touch the Zamak.

As far as it being a copy, it looks similar to a Gillette short tooth OC to me.

It's not a copy of the Muhle.... Fatip made them for Muhle! The Nickel Grandes are the 2009 Muhle R41, the Chrome Fatip in the 2008 Muhle R89..... All Muhle did was resell them at a higher price!

Could you clarify and elaborate on this? Are the different current Fatips actually different, besides the obvious different finishes and Piccolo/Grande handles?
I've seen implications that there were differences between the heads depending on the finish or even handle type, but I haven't seen it explained explicitly anywhere.

I'm pretty sure the heads are the same but with different plating.

Doesn't look AT ALL like a short tooth open comb from Gillette. The comb is actually longer and more curved than a LONG comb Gillette.

The Gillette razor it most closely resembles is the Old Type, but the comb on the FaTip is longer and the teeth are spaced out wider.

Just a difference in plating with the past Muhle models....Muhle marketed the chrome plated Fatip as the R89...came in a nice box....the Nickel plated Fatip was the R41...

Now Muhle uses its own head designs ....the current R41 is all Muhle, the current R89 is a joint effort between them and Edwin Jagger

OK, thanks for clarifying. I thought there might have been a difference beyond the plating. Is there any difference at all between the heads of a nickel Grande and a nickel Piccolo then?

Nope. Heads are identical. Only the handle is different.

Well mine just now appeared in the mail box, I wasn't expecting it for at least another week.

First impression: It's a beast. The finish is not super fine, but plenty good, if you saw this in an antique store without knowing what it was you'd jump on it with both feet. As someone pointedly remarked above, its profile is similar to my current favorite, the Gillette OC long tooth. I assumed this would be of similar size. Wrong. It's bigger, heavier.

    Here I sit clean shaven.

    Same head.

And for those of you contemplating a Joris, the FaTip and Joris heads are remarkably similar (some claim identical), so try a FaTip before you make the $160.00 plunge.

And here is my 2012 FaTip Grande in Chrome. Even the box is the same. I have seen members selling 2008 R89 for more that double of what you can buy a new FaTip for.

The Fatip has helped me to say no so far to the R41.

Edit: This and the Tradere Open Comb.

I gave fatip grande a rest for a few weeks as I was finding it hard to get the shave right. Came back to it today and got as good a shave as with R41! Without nicks or irritation.

I have the Fatip and the Tradere and unfortunately could not say no to the R41. Bought one the other day from Connaught Shaving.

Another shave with the Grande today with an Astra sp, do not think I could get a better shave. This is now by far my best shaving razor. Think I'll grab a piccolo after the R41

So the Muhle 2008 R89 is exactly the same as the Fatip? Not just the head? The fit and finish of the Muhle wasn't as nice as what they currently produce? I think I was the fatip head, but would love to have something as beautiful as the current Muhle razors.. Thoughts? Will the fatip head fit on a current Muhle R41?
