I think I can relate------it's easy to catch a lot of shaving stuff AD's and I've thought to myself 'I originally switched to this partly to save some $$$----why do I have all this stuff??' Initially, it's for 'testing', of course--we want to see what we like and what works. I could probably get by with what I have now for the rest of my life: an HD, a Dovo 5/8 Tortoise, strop, Astra blades, VDH soap, Proraso cream, Clubman AS. I would have a hard time choosing if I had to give up either my DE or my Dovo!! (but I really like Speick, and Tabac AS a lot too.......and I still need to try Alt Innsbruk sometime.......and....)

I haven't counted lately, but I imagine I have about 18-20 soaps/creams at the moment and maybe 8 after shaves plus any number of balms, colognes and blades. Candidly, it's overwhelming.

Lately, I take joy in finishing a product. I don't care what it is -- a tub of cream, a bottle of balm, etc. -- I don't get upset when I finish a product I am relieved. I find that when I'm close to the end of a product, I rush to use it up as quickly as possible so that I can throw the container out and clear a bit of space. I have two different ASBs that I should be finishing up in within the next couple weeks and I am overjoyed.

Does anyone else really enjoy finishing a product or is it just me?

Thanks Gents, I'm glad to know I'm not alone. My goal for June/July will be to use up as many "hanger on" products (those that have a serious dent, by are not quite finished yet) as possible. I think anything that has a container is fair game' so this includes samples that have been accumulated but never get used.

Over the next two months, my goal is to see the end of at least 3 full size products and at least 5 samples. I am calling this Herculean effort this effort Ju-use-it-up-ly (or Ju-use-it-up-ne).

Yeah, the name needs some help, but I'm committed all the same.

I don't want more stashing -- I have no more room and I just want simplicity.

Is it still considered stashing if you just start piling it up out in the open?

Finishing something up does give an odd feeling of accomplishment, but it happens so rarely!

When my Trumper's Limes cream first ran out, it felt like there was a hole in my heart. Now I have so many creams and soaps, I use them to barter with, caveman style! When the new La Famiglia line of soaps came out I bought 16 of them (and found myself wishing I'd bought more). I find myself shaving twice a day sometimes just for the hell of it. But I still have some room under my sink. When I don't have any more room, I will begin to practice making lather (you can never practice enough) and/or mixing soaps and creams.
Where else but in his shave can an ordinary man afford the same things that a king can?

Yes. Definitely, because if you stash in the open there's always the danger you will eventually fill the room up!

Just stop buying so many different soaps and creams!

Find your "base" cream or soap and use that, then occasionally (once or twice a year if that) treat yourself to something "special".

The same with brushes, unless your a collector with no intention of using them, why would you want so many brushes? They all do the same job in the end.

As for razors, why would you buy a second if you liked the one you already have? Again are you a collector or is the grass always greener on the other side?

So yeah if your a collector, collect! If you just like a good shave, then be sensible.

I'm starting to make an effort to use my creams more, especially my oldest. I'm really starting to worry about them going bad. I have way to many...

I'm trying to use up my creams too. I have at least two (ToBS Jermyn Street and a Tube of Godrej) that I can probably get through by the end of July. Generally I use my creams on the weekend because I find them more luxurious, but if I'm going to make more space, I need to commit to it.

Oh and I have PIF'd and traded a lot of software. In my last couple trades, I slipped in some extra goodies so I pared the den of about 7-8 soaps/creams.

I agree with this. It takes a long time to use a 150ml of cream if you have 20 then they may go out of date! Let's face it there are creams for less than 10 bucks that are superb, Cella (my favourite), Proraso and Razorock and these are great, let's face it, they are better than some twice the price. As for soaps, Palmolive, Valobra and the more exuberant Tabac are second to none. Brushes, any Omega or Semogue mid range Boar is better than what you're dad had in his DE days and finally razors, most of us are either closed comb, open comb or Straight. So do you want to shave like a man or prance like a prince with 100 of everything?

DE blades are what you could consider stocking up on and after 6 months De shaving, if for example you love Astra SPs and they give you a great shave then get a lifetime supply.

The lather is always creamier on the other side!

You should consider doing what I do. As part of my prep routine, I'll lather with one soap, let it sit on my face for a few minutes to soften the beard, then rinse it off and shave with another soap. It doubles my usage, which is good considering I have 37 different soaps & creams.

I like to switch it up, If using it up helps your spending then do it. But i rather have variety.
