Lightbulb Feather AS-1 DE - anyone ever get a BBS with this razor & 3-4 days stubble ?

Nice auto correct from lovely iPad :(

    annonce = anyone

I sold mine because it was very very difficult to figure out how to make this razor shave a BSS, especially on 3-4 days stubbles.

Then rebought a new one and will use it for head shaves and 1 days growth. No longer than that and the Feather will seem like a tame dull sword.

This razor is heaven for a total DE rookie - you simply can't cut yourself with it, impossible.
I use a Feather blade in it, but blade exposure in this Feather DE razor is simply non existing

Has anyone ever gotten a BSS shave with 3-4 days stubbles and this razor alone + 3 passes ?

I use mine for when I shave daily and am in a hurry.

It won't cut down 3-4 days stubble, I use a Feather in it always, but 3-4 days stubbles and heavy growth makes this Feather feel like a numb razor.
It can not cut you, blade exposure is non existing in the razor.

I have pretty course heavy beard for a Scandinavian guy, can grow a full beard in 6-7 days (1/2" length) time and often like the 2-3 day stubble look.....

    Anyone with any input ?

I have come to believe that all the Feather DE fans don't have a medium to thick beard. I found it was impossible to work for me...and yes I tried every angle over and over again. I'm glad I didn't start with the Feather or I might have never fell in love with DE shaving. Sell it and move on...

Just got a BBS shave with my AS-D1 yesterday as a matter of fact.

The Feather AS-D1 has a VERY shallow sweet spot. You need to shave like a machine and not vary the angle of the razor once you have it cutting. Easy to do if your face is flat as a board but a real PITA when going around jaw and chin.

It takes about as much work as shaving with an R41 which has just the opposite problem (too much sweet spot)

I get a bbs shave with 15 minutes of buffing after 3 passes. Its a tuff one to decode thats for sure. but ive shaven with it with 4 days of growth no problem.

I've gotten excellent shaves with the Feather AS D-1 and Feather blade, my favorite razor/blade combination.

I get consistent BBS shaves with my Feather AS. I shave everyday so I can't comment on multiday growths.
How are you fixed for blades?

    I think you're right unfortunately

I shaved today 5 days stubbles and started with my R41 Grande, and it took everything, then thought: HEY LET'S SEE WHAT THE FEATHER CAN DO

Then stopped using my R41 Grande from the jaw line and took a new Feather blade in the Feather DE and put some new lather on my unshaved 5 day stubble neck area. Tried every angle possible - EVERY DARN FU*CKING angle - and it barely shaved my neck. I had to use force, real force for it to remotely remove by stubbles. I have courser beard than GeoFatboy, he made the Feather DE work nicely, but I ended up relathering my neck and proceeded with my R41 Grande. 3 minutes later: BSS ON MY ENTIRE NECK, NOT A SINGLE CUT !

I must admit that the Fether DE is a work of art, but for 5 days stubbles the best solution for me is Mühle Sophist Fusion and after that comes Mühle R41 Grande :

This is where I have problems. The headline was with multiple days of growth......
One day stubble is fine, 5 days growth is not

    YMMV of course......as always

I have had good results doing the Gillette slide using the AS-D1. The angle from the leading corner to the trailing corner of the blade can be as much as 45 degrees. But do respect anything loaded with a Feather......

This approach worked a bit for me, but all in all, it is amongst my least favorite razors to use. I prefer something with some more oomph to it. I will probably put mine up for sale soon.

    I shave every day.

If I were to go 5 days without shaving I would need to use clippers to get my beard down to where any DE razor would go through it.

Search geofatboy's video on that razor. It shows how he cuts his heavy growth.

+1 Tried it twice and the second time was worse than the first! i do not think it likes coarse beards. Sell it and move on as stated!

The AS-D1 and R41 2011 are the most frequently resold razors out there and for the same reason. People who sell them can't get a good shave with them.

And you think this is due to poor technique or just different types of beard ?
Do you prefer your Feather DE for your daily shaves or when you have 2-3 days stubbles ?

I have a light to medium beard & shave everyday so have no problem (if you're not getting significant audible feedback your angle is wrong). My son, with a heavy corse beard, also loves this razor and he often skips shaving several days at a time.

But as others have said, if you're not happy, sell it (and consider picking up a Tradere or Pils with the proceeds)

I have a heavy beard, a very heavy beard to be sure and the Feather works like a charm.

The combination of my Feather AS + Feather Blade is without question the closest and the smoothest irritation free shave I have had. It took me a week to get to the sweet-spot but when you get to the spot, no other razor compares. I have a collection of my beloved vintage Gillettes and yet the Feather gets more air-time than my Gillettes. Shaving with a Feather is like learning to shave with a DE razor for the very first time. You need to persist and persevere.

It's 92 grams of Japanese art. It's so Damn beautiful and it feels great with an excellent grip.

I believe that most problems people have with the Feather razor is the way they shave. Either they are new shavers and don't have their technique down or they are coming from other products and have an established BAD technique that they have brought with them.

If you like the razor and want to keep it, you need to work a lot harder to develop a consistent stroke which is the proper speed, covers the proper amount of face, and maintains a perfect angle at the same time.

It is like playing the piano. You are not going to be Liberacein the first few weeks (or months).

Also the Feather is not the best choice as a once a week razor as you would need to rinse it after every stroke to keep it clean enough to cut.

A GEM Micromatic Clog Proof would be best for shaving once a week
