I'm in. I could more than 10 years without buying anything and not run out, except for witch hazel.

I've toyed around with the idea of joining the 2012 restraint thread, but realistically, that won't happen.

I'll start with this and see where it goes. My only exception is if I find a great deal on one of the 6 soaps and creams on my "to try" list.

For purposes of full disclosure what are those 6 soaps and creams?

I knew younwere kidding...but if we're going to make it these 3 months we've got to keep each other honest! Curious to know your thoughs on the NB. I prefer it to the signature but as I understand it I am in the minority!

I would think that the never-ending PIF is okay as long as you do offer something for PIF. No purchases are being made.

I think three months is completely doable. Heck, I'm considering 18 months except for buying a couple of astringents and maybe a brush restore project. I should probably make up my mind before the end of the day tomorrow.

I am definitely in. I am on the waiting list for an irisch moos shave stick, but I don't really need it. I think I will see if my proraso and Alt-Innsbruck can carry me 3 months.

I am in exactly in the same situation. I got the bug and have collected more than my share of razors, brushes and creams. I cannot believe how addictive this is, but it does provide us with a great pleasure. Anyways, I wish the best in your period of restraint, and let us know if you managed to survive the summer without an acquisition. Happy Shaving

HA HA HA! You guys are cracking me up! Let me try to catch up:

(1)The never -ending PIF PIF: I think it's perfectly acceptable to participate in the thread, as long as you're expeditious in your return PIF. For me, the point of this summer is not to add to the den, so if I do wind up claiming something off the NEPP, I'm going to try to PIF more than one item.

    (2) (5savages') Hit List: I too have a "hit list" of items to be acquired. I'm going back and forth on what to do here. I think 5savages has the right idea with getting the list on the board so we can all give him grief if he buys something that's not on there. However, I think I've got enough good stuff that I can make it 3 months. At least I hope I do. As YMMV with the summer of gentlemanly restraint, I think if you're going to keep scouring the BST and other sources for good deals on your present hit list items, we should know about it. (plus it's fun to know what other guys are tempted to acquire).

    (3) Binge Time - BigBull, I lost two auctions on the bay which I was hoping would satisfy my last and final shave-related compulsions for the spring. However, I've got enough Tabac for a half dozen shaves or so, so I can't be too heart-broken. And I'm still in one bidding war for a silver OC, so hopefully that'll help curb my cravings.

I feel like there needs to be some solemn oath that we take tomorrow as we embark on this journey.

In interest of full disclosure, I too have a hit list. I'm in the market for a vintage Gillette New (not sure if I want a LC or SC) but if the "one" shows up during the sabatical I will pull the trigger. This should not be looked at as "falling off the wagon".

I'm also participating in a few PIF's...one for a scuttle, that shouldn't arrive to me in this timeframe and the 2nd is an OC that more than likely will. I went 5 years wetshaving with 1 line of products, AOS, and 1 scent, Sandalwood. Since joining the DE world and B&B, it's almost stupid how much I've acquired. I'm not looking to thin out my stash, I'm just looking to zero in on what I like before this gets out of hand.

Definitely count me in! I have gone on quite a tear lately. Starting with some reknot supplies, moving onto the RazoRock new soap release, and finally buying 2 razors from BST. Lord give me the strength!

Much respect to you gentlemen who are participating. I entertained the thought of joining and had to be honest with myself. I simply cannot do it. I'm having a hard enough time doing "GEMini" (using only a GEM razor - I have four different models to choose from - for roughly a month)

More power to you guys, and I will be watching this thread to see how it goes fro you all.

I hate to point this out to 5savages...but there was a deal on MWF with the ceramic bowl in BST last night...

BigBull, your hit list has been acknowledged and accepted for the summer of gentlemanly restraint.

As for PIFs, I can think of few things more gentlemanly. In my summer of gentlemanly restraint, I'm not seeking to necessarily reduce my den (although that's likely going to be the result), rather, I'm seeking not to acquire additional stuff. I think that PIFs are perfectly in line with restraint, again, assuming you're also paying something forward.

5 years with one product line and one scent seems like enough restraint for a lifetime BigBull! And I'm sure if any of us come across a vintage Gillette New, we'll at least think of you before we acquire it.

I'll be honest, I was originally sold the whole kit by a HoTT blonde in San Diego while on a business trip. It works very well for me and I certainly consider it top tier...although they think very highly of their product line.

Yeah, well that explains it! Fortunately for me, I got my kit from a HoTT blonde in Columbus, and she supports my purchases of multiple product lines and scents.

I like that so many of us have exceptions to the sabbatical...is that really a sabbatical

In an odd way today feels like a holiday. I'll scour BST listings and see what deals are out there...fairly certain a purchase will be made today!

Crap, I forgot about that....I'm adding to my exception list one vintage handle in need of a new knot. To maintain the spirit of this thread, I do pledge, however, that I will not buy the new knot until after the summer is over. If the right handle comes around, for the right price, I'm on it!

    My new list:

Bath House Spanish Fig & Nutmeg Soap
Art of Shaving - cream or soap, any flavor
    D.R. Harris Soap - Marlborough
    Mitchell's Wool Fat Soap
Nancy Boy Shave Cream - any flavor Thanks David!
    Haslinger Shave Soap - Hoenig
Vintage brush handle in need of new knot

And again, those will only be bought if a great deal comes along. I can do without them (for now) at normal retail prices.
