    Default Big Lots Decant "Bottles"/Atomizers

I do not know how wide-spread Big Lots stores are, or how similar their stock is from place to place, but last weekend the one in Gaithersburg, MD had metal-covered glass spray decant "travel" atomizers, of I would say 5 ml or a bit larger, designed to be filled from the bottom from a larger bottle of scent for $1.50 each. They are called Salon Shoppe "My Scent" refillable atomizers.

    [top]

A couple of places on Amazon carry them for $6.30 and $6.99. So a very good deal in a useful size. Seems like a very sturdy item all around.

The only downside I see is that the cap over the atomizer seems to come off easily if one carries the atomizer in a pocket or similar. Which does not mean it will leak much. Only what is sprayed out of the atomizer if it pressed down inadvertently. Again, the juice goes in through the bottom and the bottom is set up to screw on very securely and to otherwise be leak-proof. To mail the item, for instance, a small piece of tape would hold the cap on. The cap is quite strong. Just a bit loose.

$1.50 for small quantities of a decant container of this construction and quality is a very good price, although not completely unheard of.

Thanks for the heads up. We have Big lots out here in Colorado. Sounds like it might be a nice atomizer. I have a feeling the stock varies quite a bit from store to store but I'll check it out later this week.

Thanks! I'll have to check that out. I think my big lots is still around.

Get there before I do! I intend to buy out my local store if I get back there which will not be too soon!

Interesting store.Almost nothing there I want. But for the second time it has had a great deal on something I really wanted.

Every Big Lots has different stock, and they never have the same stuff twice!

Any chance you can provide some pics? I have a Big Lots nearby AND a decanting addiction.

Sorry to be slow getting to this, C. Probably the easiest thing is to look on Amazon at http://www.amazon.com/As-Seen-On-TV-...8526503&sr=1-7 including the photos allong the left-hand side showing how to fill them from a bottle of fragrance that has an atomizer. What is not clearly shown is that that silicon "device" intended to fit up against the atomizer is also something of a built in small funnel. Would still be easier to use a pipette with the funnel. The opening is not all that large.

As far as that silicon connector piece helping decant from an atomizer, I tried to use it with a decant atomizer, but the collar that the sprayer cap slides up and down within in the down position tended to distance the sprayer from the silicon "adapter" and thus not help, or for that matter hinder much. I am guessing that with many atomizers on "real" bottles of scent--I just looked and Creed, C&S, Montale, Dunhill 1934, and Pen's atomizers are excellent examples--the lack of such a collar would mean that the silicon thingie could actually be of significant help.

All of the ones Big Lots had were in silver, and the lettering on the side looks just slightly different than what Amazon shows, but tht could just be the photograph.

By the way, the Flo brand decant atomizers also on Amazon that look very much like the "My Scent" The Salon Shoppe atomizers, seem to be different. Apparently, the silicon adapter on those has to be put on after unscrewing the bottom of the atomizer, and then removed before screwing the bottom back on. I have no idea whether there is any advantage or disadvantage to that, other than having to keep up with that silicon part as a separate piece.

I know you use pretty darn good atomizers already, and I assume you are getting them at a decent unit price, in part becaue you are buying in quantity. I think these, in part because of their design, would be very leak proof. The sprayer seems fine. I do not like that the cap that goes over the sprayer is quite loose and comes off so easily. But, as I said previously, if sending one by mail a piece of tape should easily absolutely secure that cap. And who needs a cap otherwise, unless one is carrying a decant around in a pocket, which is the only time I can think of that the loose cap would be much of a problem.

I suppose I would also rather have a flat bottom so that the decant atomizer could stand up on end, rather than the rounded bottoms these Big Lots ones have.

I think my favorite decant atomizer is this style http://www.amazon.com/Silver-Metalli..._sim_sbs_bt_25 . Outside can be plastic instead of metal. I may actually like plastic better.

I, of course, would be interested in your thoughts if you manage to get any of the Big Lots atomizers. I wonder how much they hold. It may actually be a little difficult to figure that out. I suppose using a pipette, not too hard! The slot on the side of these that let's one see to and through the glass side of the interior bottle to see the fill level is handy.

This one is my favorite, too. Very durable for travel, stands up nicely on its flat bottom, and I believe holds a little over 10ml.

I have some larger ones in this style, as well as some of the 10 ml ones. You are correct, can hold at max fill a bit over the stated size!

No one should ever rely on any decant containers to hold exactly the amount they are stated to me. Most are a bit larger than the stated size. I think I had some 8 ml ones that were a bit under.

Well, thanks for the tips guys. I didn't think I had a Big Lot near me till I did a search. Turns out one just opened up a few weeks ago about 8 miles from me. They carry the one in the first link that Robbie has here. My Scent. I opened one and looked at it and it seems substanctial. Yes, the cap fits slightly loose but it's a nice little unit. I bought all ten that they had. for $1.50 each I think it's a steal.

So with that said, I can probably only use about 5 of these. If anyone else in this thread want's to try one and doesn't have a Big Lot or theirs doesn't have them, let me know and I'll PIF you one.
edit:The first 5 to PM me get's one. Postage paid.

That is a really cool thing to do! Although I don't need one, I just love seeing the generosity here. Hope people enjoy these.

I'll have to go to Big Lots. I have found stock varies from location to location. These are like the ones Penhaligon's has. They gave away like 50 to members here a while back. Neat little objects for sure. Kind of different if you start putting other fragrances into it.

Not quite. The Big Lots ones I found and the Pen's ones look rather alike, but have different fill mechanisms. The Pen's one had a place to insert the slender tube part of an atomizer that sticks up after one removes the actual sprayer cap. Rather clever. The idea is to pump up and down on that tube as if the sprayer cap was still attached. To get to the fill hole one does not have to take the bottom off or anything. There is no bottom to unscrew.

The Big Lots version has something of a silicon funnel built in that is exposed when a bottom cap is unscrewed. Not as tidy or clever as the Pen's atomizer, but still useful! Don't unscrew that bottom cap with juice in the atomizer without the atomizere turned upside down or the contents will pour immediately out!

Was in our Big Lots a few days ago. Nothing exciting. Got a $3 scent that smelled ok but it is not long lasting.

Went to the Marshall's next door and found a bottle of Grey Flannel for $12 so it was not a total loss for the day

Thanks for the report, even though a report of nothing good found, Turtle!

I should be clear that I am in no way endorsing Big Lots overall as a place even worth one's time to stop in, at least for toiletry type stuff, but I rarely see anything of any kind there that I want. An ocean of stuff.

Once in a while they "hit."

For anyone who was wondering how these work, "ShaveThis" was nice enough to send me one. Quite a steal for a buck and a half (or in my case, free!) You put the tip of an atomizer against the rubber seal on the back and begin spraying to transfer to the travel atomizer. You screw the bottom into place and the top just slides on and off. The box says it hold about 50 sprays, so I am guessing it is roughly 4ml or 5ml (which looks about right given the size).
