Thanks for the compliments guys! Things got really busy with work but I finally got some time to finish up my blade. I ended up going with a wooden handle but, in order to get it down to the thickness I wanted, I had to cut off a lot of the tang and shank. The "scales" of the razor are made with 3 layers of ipe (brazillian walnut) that were glued and clamped with titebond, and finished with alcohol/mineral oil. I opted to go for a non shiny finish in order to keep with the simplicity of a true kamasori. The blade was brought up to an almost mirror shine before I forced the patina with a bit of vinegar. It was then JB welded into place and it is STUCK. You are not getting it out of there without breaking the scales. Which is exactly what I wanted. I then honed it following this progression...
1k sandpaper on glass (bevel set)
Norton 4k (bevel refining)
Norton 8k
8k + Dishsoap
Shapton 16k
16k + Dishsoap
Newspaper strop
Cloth strop
Leather strop
The bevel setting was a bit tricky from previously breadknifing of the blade to take its smile away, but once it was set everything else was smooth sailing. Man is it sharp! I got a BBS on my first go if you disregard the 3 nicks on my chin![]()
Overall I am extremely satisfied with how things came out.
OH! I did take some shots as I was doing the rest of the work so here they are...

Sorry the pictures of the razor itself aren't so good. It's late and I don't feel like pulling out my real camera![]()

Thanks!
The vinegar bath was overnight while I slept. When I took it out I washed it with water and wiped with a paper towel. Then I give it a quick polish on the spots that were too dark.
too bad its a gold dollar and will never take a shave ready edge....
all that beautiful work and you won't be able to use it....

a nice walk in the woods helps me relax and relieves tension....
the fact i'm dragging a shovel and a body should be irrelevant...
