SuperLather question!?

I've been getting a bit of SSAD. I've been stuck on creams for quite some time, and I figured if I buy a few soaps I'm gonna try this superlather thing. I read in an old post however that the superlather is meant to take two "lesser" products and make a good lather out of them. Is this an opinion or is there some fact to it? For instance if I take my Proraso Green Tea and Oat (what i believe is a nice soap, maybe I'm wrong) and mix it with some AOS, TOBS, or KMF am I making it better or just mixing up scents? Thanks for any info!

IMO, super-lather is merely the mixing of a soap and a cream...quality of either is not a factor. And to expand, uber-lather is just superlather with a few drops of pure glycerin added. Sometimes half the fun of superlather is in mixing scents, so enjoy the experimentation!

In my opinion and I have done this several times you are really just creating scent combinations when it comes to really good soaps. I have mixed Cella with RazoRock Fresco and Proraso and got a great watermint cherry Dr. Pepper fragrance and the lather was great. I have done VDH Delux and La Toja shave Cream and Williams mixed with Palmolive shave stick. The VDH was helped by the La Toja Shave cream, but all others from my experience was just a change in fragrance. On your next shave just do a small mixture of two different soaps and see how it goes.

Keep in mind super/uber lather wont make the shave any better if your blade isnt sharp n smooth

You can mix any products you want. The scents can be weird in the end. Myself, I would mix the products that don't work well, who are not exactly there or that I like less. However, I did mix favourites in the past such as Proraso soap (white tub) with Proraso cream (green tube) and that was fantastic. On it's own, Proraso is already a very good product IMO. I can't wait to try the new formula.

Anyways, I got some mediocre products over the years and I started using them with some unscented glycerin soap. I would use the glycerin soap as a shave stick and would charge my brush on the other product (often a shave soap that didn't work well). The scent was a bit milder in the end but it gave me what I needed, a nice thick and slick lather.

One of the products that I got to work with is the Fitjar shave soap. For some reason, I find the glide to be close to zero in this case. I got a bottle of liquid glycerin and I add 3-5 drops on the puck before I charge my brush. It turns into a great soap without affecting the scent. I used it with a puck of glycerin soap too and it was easy. However, using liquid glycerin would be more Uberlather than SuperLather...

In the end, if the product works well or not, you can do any experiment you want, my advice, share them!

I've been putting a peanut size drop of Proraso Red on my puck of DR Harris Arlington soap and the lather is so thick and slick that I'm not sure whether I get a better or worse shave. Really can't tell. The scent and tactile experience, however, is just so lush that I do it anyway. I find it kind of fun to mix the soaps and creams and also do it with the aftershaves and balms. No rules here. Enjoy yourself.

Ah man, you should have said something a couple weeks ago. I could have tossed a tube of Bigelow in the box, hopefully it's arrived by now. I know my favorite so far is a stripe of the Bigelow with a pump of the KMF Key Lime.

I've been mixing RazoRock Cacao cream and Mystic Soap. Sometimes I have added a few drop[s of Shave Secret. Awesome lather!!

I do this also. I tend to use a shave stick then whip up another product that I dont care for and then just face lather.

I like that too, I also add KMF cool mint to Godrej lime

I think I'll try a few shots of KMF into my proraso cup. I think I'm gonna mash it into my thermos lid which I use for my lather bowl haha. Wish me luck! I can't wait! Prolly have a week-ish till it gets here though. Until then KMF!!!!

My opinion is that it is best used to improve a product, or save 2 poor products.

Using an outstanding product, like AOS for example, with another, is a shame. This is just my opinion, but mixing it with anything else is just lowering the AOS performance. If you have some KMF cream and williams, however.....

Personally, I'm not a fan of either superlather or uberlather. There are so many good products out there that it seems like a waste of time to try to rescue a couple of poor performers by blending them together. Life is too short. If I have a lousy soap, I either pass it along to someone else or demote it to the shower. On the other hand, if you're a tinkerer, go for it. The point is to enjoy your shave.

I can understand trying to improve a soap that does not meet expectations, but for me it is just about creating different fragrance with those that I already enjoy. RR Fresco is a Water Mint Fragrance that combines well with many great soaps such as RR King Louis Lavender, RR Don Marco, Cumba Cheech, Cella, and Mike's Natural Lime Shave Soap. The same can be said with Proraso as it combines well with the above mentioned soaps providing a nice cooling sensation with a slight hint of the Eucalyptus fragrance. I don't believe it lowers the performance of any of the soaps as they still perform just as they did when mixed alone. The only thing that actually changes is the fragrance.

I hope the Proraso GT and Oat I have on the way isn't too cooling. I love some Proraso/Bigelow Cream but the ice kick is pretty strong. I still enjoy it, but I'd like to try a milder version. Lets hope the GT and Oat soap does the trick! Thanks for all the comments guys!
