Default I have a cast on my right arm and can't shave

I had elbow reconstruction surgery last Thursday and, while can reach my entire face with my left hand, i cannot shave with it. I can't open the shave cream, much less do anything else. I was thinking about getting an electric razor to shave with. I don't know much about them and they are probably expensive- I should be able to shave normally in 6-8 weeks. Any suggestions, I was wondering if there are sort of multi tool electrics that do more than 1 thing as well.

    Thanks

Learn to use your left then learn to straight shave haha, you cannot shave with it right now but with a bit of practice I am sure you can :)
    2) Find a puck of soap and keep it open so you dont need to open any jars or tubs? or get a MWF/DR harrison bowl that doesn't require a screw lid

I get terrible razor burn with electrics so I can't help you there

Yeah, safest thing I can advise is buying a good electric. I have an old Braun - I hear Braun is still a good name. Other option may be have someone else help with a SAS - what's your SO doing?

Best of luck and speedy recovery. I know you'll figure something out.

I would go with a brushless cream, and a DE. Should be do-able no? I have managed to shave with a straight razor while I was on crutches (and I used a brush not any latherless cream or anything), so no excuses mate
Also I wish you a speedy recovery mate.

I think using a straight razor left handed too be a Little braver than I am . My wife an I have a great relationship, and one reason is we don
't speak much in the morning. I did think about asking her to make a lather for me, and I would apply it, and shave, I'm not very good looking and actually look worse with a beard. If teach her to lather will I be giving up a secret of the male species, that will hound me forever.I though about going to a barber shpo twice a week and get a shave, but I don't even know if they still do that.

While you are recovering, I think it may be worthwhile to try out the Gillette Guard. I've been interested in trying it out myself. It's the new revolutionary cartridge system which doesn't clog, and has a guard so it's almost impossible to cut yourself. This may be perfect for you at this time, especially if you have to shave with your left hand. I found it being sold at westcoastshaving.com. Hope this helps.

Man that sucks. I hope you feel better soon!

and to answer your question, there are at-least two options you can go with.

    1) get a cheap electric razor to hold the fort until your elbow is back in action.
I used to use this electric razor (or a older model) before I switched to wet shaving. You will get SAS in 5 minutes but will only last you until lunch.
    http://www.walmart.com/ip/Philips-No...ystem/10250228
I know it's not a 'glowing' review but since it is on sale for about $29 online and will help simplify your needs. Shop around before buying!

    2) Try Kiss My Face Moisture Shave cream.
    http://www.kissmyface.com/product/grid/35/204
It is a brush-less shave cream that I like to use when I don't feel like going the whole 9 yards for my shave. You can find the Cool mint version at King Soopers near the pharmacy.
First wash and rinse your face then with your face and Hand(s) still wet use one pump (from the pump bottle) to your hand then apply to face/beard. add a few drops of water to lather if needed. wash hand(s), then shave.
Great stuff! But that is assuming you want/can do everything one handed.

How much are you restricted with your elbow healing? Can you grip small/light things or you can't use that arm at all? If you can't use your Right hand for anything, I suggest getting an electric with an easy to use charger stand.

    Get well soon!
I am not wise. If I thought I was, I wouldn't learn anything.

Brushless cream (aka, 'any cream'), and a cartridge razor with a pivoting head. I'd suggest a 2-blader like the Sensor, keep things as simple as possible.
They get looked down on here because they provide a decent shave with minimal effort - which is exactly what you're looking for here!

Electrics have a breaking in period, and unless you buy a really expensive one you never really get a good shave (at least, by our standards!)

Seriously, learn to use your left! I broke my wrist in two spots when I was younger and my forearm looked like a U! Had a cast up to my shoulder for over a month. I learned to do a lot of things with my left hand and it was quite challenging but enjoyable. The human body can adapt very well. It is our minds that tend to resist change. I am sure that if it means enough to you there is a way to get by, even if that means using a cart razor in the beginning. Good luck and I wish you the best in your recovery!

I was looking at electric razors and for using it 2 months are pretty expensive, even for crap. I'm thinking the cheapey pivoting head type and canned gel or foam. I know absolutely nothing about this stuff, my favorite Simpson brush misses me I think. One Gent mentioned a 2 blade Sensor, is that a good path to go with, and what soap or cream.

Using a straight with the left hand is what most of us do - but maybe not all. 1/2 the shave is done with one hand, the other 1/2 is done with the other hand. However it isn't out-of-the-question to use one hand to do both sides of the face and some straight shavers do that anyway.

A Kamisori is a one-handed shave by tradition so many of us who use those will use just one hand.

However, starting off without any muscle training (assuming you don't use a straight now) with your non-dominant hand would be a deeeeee---zasssstorrrrrr.

DE would work fine, though. You would have to have the SWMBO change the blades every few days but, other than that, piece of cake.

Electrics just don't work for me

Mach 3 would work fine, too. Depends on how much confidence you have in the DE.

I would go for using your left hand.
for the lather ask the Mrs to unsrew the top of your cream tub and then you are good to go your self. apply cream to face and then use brush. just sit the lid on top on the cream tub when finished, no need to srew on.
get a mach3 or something on those lines, hard to cut your self with.
go slow and you will get the hang of it very quickly. The most important part here is it is good for the mind a real feel good effect.
    get well soon
    Chris.

I like the KMF and 2 blade disposable suggestion. A broken arm is what it would take me to go back, but I would!

+1 And seriously, if you feel you need a shave that bad (maybe a trim of the beard), go to a barber and let them take care of you. Rest and recover meanwhile. Good luck any way you decide to go!
