    Default Review: Noodler's Purple Heart

It’s Memorial Day. What better ink to review than Noodler’s Purple Heart? I have profound respect for our troops and particularly the ones who paid the ultimate price for the cause. Happy Memorial Day. I hope you’re using this time to reflect on sacrifice while enjoying your cookout or what have you.

Pen: Lamy 2000 (Note: the upcoming Lamy 2000 review was also completed with this ink and will feature different papers)

Paper: Norcom (USA) single subject notebook paper (page 1), Hammermill Tidal MP 20# (page 2)

This ink is a Goulet Pen Company exclusive from Noodler’s. It features George Washington on the bottle as well as two depictions of the Purple Heart award. Its special property is that it is of the “Eel” line of Noodler’s inks, designed to lubricate pistons.

I like this ink. It is generally well behaved and as it is an Eel ink, is good for my piston fillers. I also love the theme as an adopted Virginian.

I would characterize the color as a dusty purple. I would confidently use this ink in court or to sign a client letter.

The ink does favor better papers. I get show through and some feathering here (on Norcom) and on AMPAD efficiency legal pad paper.

I don’t think this ink is waterfast (it’s not — see ink form), but we will find out when I conduct a water test.

I have a feeling that this pen will be going to a different ink after this fill, but the ink begs for italic/stub treatment. I may put it in a 1.5 italic Lamy Safari. I could replace La Reine Mauve with this in my Apple Green Safari.

Ink form after water test. Note that Rome is Burning hasn’t totally turned purple. This ink is clearly not waterfast but shows some small degree of water resistance. I really doubt it would survive a soak test.

Thanks for another great ink review! I was planning on picking up Purple Heart along with Liberty's Elysium when it is back in stock.

I am a huge fan of this ink. It's a great color that is a nice purple-black to my eye, and I find it suitable for document signing, etc. I've been using it in a medium Pelikano Junior, and couldn't be more pleased with it.
