Because I got about a 1/4" cut this morning on a XTG pass.
Second straight shave ever.
Sure hard to keep the angle right when you get your hands soapy! LOL!

Forgot to mention, did the whole shave with the straight, no touchups with the DE today.
Posting with my Kindle Fire, typos are hard to fix...

Use your alum block (if you have one - if not - get one)! Wash your hands with it, and you'll get a sure grip! I use it every shave.
Congrats!! I am so glad I went straight -> I gave my DE a run the other day just to see, I doubt I'll ever go back!

Might think about keeping a towel handy or hanging off your shoulder. I keep my hands dry JUST because I've done the same thing you did.
It's an adventure, take your time, and enjoy the trip.
All I ask is a chance to prove that money can't make me happy.
Where would I find an alum block? Maybe Sally's? I'm a long ways from the big city here.
As for the towel -- I figured that out, but too late! "Experience is what you get right after you needed it!"![]()

Alum block is a handy thing to have. Helps with grip for one. After the shaving part use it on your face after the hot rinse. It gives a score of the overall edge and shave. If you yodel, it's a one. I like the razz-rock because of the plastic case. It has to last forever. Maybe longer. MY buddy gave himself a good cut on his second shave. He dived in with the styptic pencil. He probably should have put the skin back and taped it. Anyway, he has a manly scar now to match his tats. I told him one rum probably ok, ten not so much. But he didn't listen!
You should not be getting your hands soapy or the tang of the razor wet. I do my first pass WTG starting at the sideburn, after that I use my off hand to stretch the skin by placing it in the area that was just shaven. This area is free of soap, water, hair.
I have the alum block but don't use it, I get all the traction I need.

I bought a DE from a nice gentleman here thinking I would use it on my neck when I don't get it close enough to suit me.
Nope, I'm sticking to my straight. The DE gives me bumps. I'll just work on getting the neck better with my straight.
Not sure about Sally's but if Clovis has a Walmart you could check the deodorant aisle for natural deodorant crystal. I did a quick search on their website and you can at least order some sticks that contain potassium alum or ammonium alum, and they might have them in store. I'm not even close to qualified to explain the difference between the two types--if you're interested there have been some discussions on the topic here and elsewhere. I just know that the deodorant crystal keeps my fingers dry. Good luck finding something that works!

I wish I could blame my cuts on soapy hands instead of just general ineptness.![]()

a nice walk in the woods helps me relax and relieves tension....
the fact i'm dragging a shovel and a body should be irrelevant...
