Great weekend score

Hey guys,

Felt like sharing this score. I went to an antique show on friday afternoon and came out with some great razors.



6/8 Case Red Imp 133.

It had some rust all over the blade, and the scales were badly aged but it looked great otherwise. Still has the red paint and blued tang. It cleaned up real nice with some TLC. I shaved with it last night and it was superb.



NOS 5/8 SR Droescher SRD #79

Scales were a bit warped from age but it's going to get it's maiden shave soon.






5/8 Joe Elliot "Console"

Odd etching for a razor, just had to wipe it down with some suds and it honed up really nice.

Great score! The Red Imp 133 takes a wicked edge.

I saw a Red Imp (Case and made in the U.S.A.) today. The scales were pretty decent (except for the shrinking that seems to be very common with the Red Imp) and the tang was still blued, but the blade faces were badly scratched up and the wedge was broken. Besides, they wanted $100...

Sounds like the one you found is pretty nice!

Yeah great score they all are in very good shape. I have been looking for a 6/8 red imp maybe one day I'll stumble upon one.

Thanks, it turned out to be one of my best outings to date. It didn't seem like it at first though however.

I arrived about 2 hours after the show had started. I had gotten about half way through all of the vendors at the sale, not much to be had I started to feel like I wouldn't get much out of the trip, I spotted the Red Imp at one of the tables and started speaking with the gentleman who it belonged to. When I expressed interest in the Imp he told me that he brought about 20 straight razors with him but another fellow had cleaned him out of them all at once. He also said the same fellow had cleaned out the entire show of straights...my heart sunk, if this Imp is what the guy left behind what else was here before?!?! Dang... that really bummed me out but I did get the Imp at a good price and continued on.

I got to another table a few minutes later and found the Joseph Elliot and this brilliant Droescher new in the box. I started feeling much better after picking those ones up. ... I suppose it could have been a lot better if I had been earlier but oh well I'm still really happy on how it turned out!!

Yeah and the vendors are picking up on it. They are starting to price things out of control. Persistence pays off though.

Dakotaev: Exactly what I am running into
I saw a nice blade for sale just the blade and the lady was like oh thats a nice straight its made in errr... Germany so its high quality I'd like 60$ for it
Snapped blades/massive chips/nothing special they are asking for $50-100
The worse was a badly warped one and they wanted $90 for it

I think they are catching on and pricing it insanely hoping someone will get it, I was lucky with my one score outta the entire place
I saw a nice Sweden blade but had a bad honed out tip for 40$ when I put it parallel to the table

Hopefully I can find anything as lucky as what you got, those are some beautiful blades esp the Joe elliot
