    Smile Rodney Neep Custom Brush

    Gents, I've got a custom brush on its way from Rodney Neep. I thought long and hard about what my next brush would be. A custom Shavemac or M&F were at the top of my list. But I wanted to give the Extra Silvertip by Mr. Neep a try. I was also impressed by some of the detail work he does. I'm too excited to wait until it arrives, so I'm starting my thread with the pictures he sent. Celebrate with me by posting your Neep brushes!

    I'm calling it my Neep 1210: Green Agate, Extra Silvertip 28mm knot, 49mm loft.

    @Vlad: Beautiful brush! Congrats.
    Did you specify the loft? It seems many of the brushes on Rod's website have taller lofts than I prefer.

    Okay, how do we get in touch with Mr. Neep and does he give B&Bers a discount?!

    Beautiful brush, Vlad. Rod does fine work. I'm interested to hear your thoughts on the knot.

    I specified the loft...I'm sure he can set it however you want, within the limits of the knot/handle.

    I'm thinking about buying one of these brushes but can you let me know, when received yours how the hair is, I don't know which hair to choose for a face lather only, my favourite is M&F blonde badger and I'd like to find something like that in the rodney range, backbone and flow trough, not too dense.

    thanks for help ;)

    It's gorgeous Vlad, absolutely gorgeous. I think the 28/49 is spot on too, right where I like my chubbies.

    Default Woot!

    It's here, in just over a week! Very well packaged and presented. The detail work is just amazing. The bottom is slightly concave with a perfect decorative ring with soft edges. I'll post bloom pics and thoughts on the knot when I lather with it later.

    Thumbs up

    Comparison shots of the Neep 1210 (bloomed) next to Heritage Stubby 2XL and M&F 26mm Horn. These were stupid choices for comparison since they are 2-bands, and the top view shows basically nothing...sorry about that. It's about as dense as the M&F, but less so than the 2XL. Doing this shot just revealed how incredibly dense my 2XL is...and it's 2-band at that, which tend not to be as dense. It's less dense than my M&F 3-band (31mm), and has darker tips (edit: this isn't better or worse, since I have a 3-band Heritage with this color, which is an awesome grade of hair). I'll just say density is very good, but not impressive.

    Whatever this Extra Silvertip is, it's not TGN Silvertip Grade A. It has more backbone than the Grade A 30mm brush I used to have, but it's not scritchless like the Grade A. In this way, it reminds me of D01 2-band, but definitely doesn't have that level of density and backbone. My guess is that it's the same Super Silvertip grade offered by TGN. The brush lost far fewer hairs than the Grade A, which shed for many uses. This knot may have already stopped shedding after 3 lathers.

    Here it is at work on some RazoRock La Famiglia. Facelathering was great, and it felt less scritchy the second time than the first...definitely need to try this some more before I give it a final grade on softness of tips. I'll test out the backbone some more on some hard soap tomorrow.

    I have an imitation ivory handle brush with Extra Silvertip and a 24/50mm knot. The handle is outstanding. I was a bit diasappointed in the hair. As you say it is not without scritch. In color and feel it seems very similar to the EJ super I have which is less dense but with the same face feel. The brush is still great for face lathering. But I wish it come with a Thaeter 3 band knot...
