If Lamy made a bank pen, that'd be my favorite!

Mine is my Studio (don't own a 2000 YET). The Al-Star is nice, but I really love the heft of the Studio.

More details? My Safari is F while SWMBO has M and I can hardly tell the difference. Sadly the papers I mostly use turn everything into a B :(

This is why your medium looks like a fine and they both become broad. If you use higher quality paper, it actually repels the ink instead of sucking it up, then you will see the differences in the nib sizes, and have a better writing experience with a fountain pen!

My Safari F looks exactly like my M as well, which I find too fat.
I don`t expect much difference in the 1.1 nib I have on the way from a seller.

Is there anything particular to look for when buying paper? I usually just go for 80 - 90 grams paper but would actuallu like some A4 books with that thin bible-kind-of-paper. Thin paper = more space = more pages to write on :-D

I am running out of notebooks and looking for cheap and good sources. Has to dry quick though as I mainly use them for notes during classes / sermons.

A5 / A4 preferred and NO WIRE BINDS!!!! I HATE THOSE THINGS!

My favorite Lamy is my 2000 with a fine nib. I'm planning on ordering a second 2000 with a medium nib as my girlfriend keeps eyeing mine.

All other Lamy pens in their current range use the same interchangeable nibs and similar feed designs so it really comes down to weight, balance, look and feel. I have a few Safaris, Vistas and Al-Stars plus a Studio and a handful of nibs to swap amongst them. I'm particularly fond of their 1.1mm steel nibs and prefer it in the Studio for the additional weight that makes it feel more balanced although the metal section does get a bit slippery.

I typically use Rhodia pads for notes and lists and misc. stuff, that paper is 80g and performs well with fountain pen ink. They do have A4 and A5 sizes in staple bound in all of their variety's (dot, lined, blank and graph).
I don't think the thin paper you want will do well with fountain pen ink, but I am not a pen or paper pro!
I am surprised that you cannot tell a difference between a Lamy fine and Medium using 80g paper, and from my experience, a 1.1 is way different.
I love using my 1.1 nib, and yes, like you, I hate spiral bound notebooks!

    Dave:

When my 1.1 nib shows up I`ll make some lines using medium, fine and 1.1 on a piece of paper and upload it.
Could be fun to see how many can tell which lines belong to each nib :-)

Well, if you only do a line in one direction, the italic will be hard to distinguish. Go in multiple directions and it will be a piece of cake

I have a Lamy Studio with a M nib, I hate it. Absolutely hate it. It's too thick and bold for a medium. Drives me batty.

I bought the 1.1mm italic nib for it from the Goulet's and absolutely love it. Completely opposite from the M. the 1.1 nib is fantastic in my opinion.

On that note, isellpens has a sale going on the Lamy 2000 right now, $125.00 USD.
