    Default TOBS face lathering question.

Hello. I can achieve a nice slick and thick face lather with my Simpson Colonel brush. However, the lather seems to dry up and flake off rather quickly. I have tried using a bit more water but the result is always the same. Is this an inherent characteristic of TOBS? Thanks.

Interesting. I have never had that problem with any of the three that I have used. Perhaps you could use even more water???

Surprised! Use TOBS rose and sandalwood creams in face lathering, and have not had this situation arise. And I do start off with a fairly dry brush.

Mine does this, and I have the same brush as you. I have to shave quickly to prevent this from happening. No straight razor shaves with my TOBS cream. It's good effective stuff, but the flaking puts me off of it. The tiny flakes actually float around in front of me.

Oh wow! This is my experience exactly with TOBS Eton College. It's like it's snowing in my bathroom.

I find that TOBS creates quite a bit of lather, but doesn't feel that thick. Maybe less water.

Dancing flakes of TOBS before me. Exactly. I think I will switch to something else. Not sure what.

I've had the same problem! I just use my brush to freshen up the lather if it starts flaking.

This happens to me with most English creams. It never happens with Proraso, Palmolive, or Nivea.

I have never experienced this with any of my TOBS creams, in fact I have never had this happen with any cream for that matter. Perhaps it is a hard water issue. Try using more product to see if that helps.

Wow! And I use a Colonel, too! Will have to try one of my TOBS creams and my Colonel in the morning to see what happens!

This only happens with one or two of them (TOBS) if I don't get the water mix right. Really only on the Sandalwood and Almond, none of the others. I have most of them. On those two I add a drop or two of glycerin. Fixes it right up. If I get the flakes, I just put a drop or two of water on my brush and lather up again. It's all right then.

Do you use a pre-shave oil? Sometimes I'm suspicious that it's that mix.

Yeah its def a hard water issue, its hard water where i work and when i travel back up north home, where its soft water i have no problems with flaking. I get round this by bowl lathering and just applying area by area, so cheek and neck, then other cheek, the moustache area then chin to finish off, it doesnt flake when you leave it lathered in the bowl and on the brush, seems to solve the problem!
