I could use witch hazel and an alum block every day and be very happy.

Thayer's Witch Hazel and Alcohol-free Toners are a great place to start. Rinse the shave cream off, pat dry, and splash on. Some use an alum block liberally but I only use alum/styptic on nicks and such. Later i follow with balm.

I use both alum and witch hazel after every shave.

Shave, warm rinse, cold rinse, alum on wet face, cold rinse, pat dry, witch hazel, allow WH to dry while cleaning brush, razor, etc., AS splash.

Why are you interested in a toner? What specifically are you interested in?

Witch hazel is great, especially Thayer's. Lucky Tiger is good too, but watch out...my wife appropriated mine for her own use!

Lucky Tiger really soothes any pain immediately. On it's own, not much of a scent remains so you can follow up with your favorite AS. I usually hit my wet face with Alum, let it sit for a bit, rinse again, apply Luck Tiger, let it dry, then apply AS.

Too much witch hazel and could cause irritation. Any witch hazel you buy should be clear regardless of brand.

been using the Thayer's Witch Hazel Toner with Aloe (no alcohol)...perfect for the summer time, pleasant scent that disappears pretty quickly and leaves the face smooth without any stickiness or excessive tightness

    Thumbs up Technically, about WH

Witch Hazel is only part of what a proper after shave should be. I use Dickinson's frequently, including a few minutes ago, because I felt a sting when rinsing, and didn't want a major sting later. After the WH dried, and my hair, such of it as I still have on the sides, was combed again, I used

Since I use only WH after a shave, I must be missing out on something is what you're saying?
