Does anyone know if the Brylcreem that can be purchased nowadays in the store is the same formula that our fathers and grandfathers were using 50,60 years ago? Or have they changed it?

I was wondering that myself. I just started using it a couple months ago and a little dab really does do ya...
Since someone else is using it...
Does it seem to poof your hair up when you sweat? By the end of the day, I have no semblance of the hairstyle I started with. I even hit it with a touch of hairspray to try and help it stay put.

I use about the size of quarter and make sure your hair is damp....zero poofiness....
I don't have frizzy hair, so it doesn't poof mine when I use it. Just make sure your hair is pretty damp. Not wet, but damp, and comb through thoroughly. Works all day for me.
I wish Groom and clean would work for me too, but it doesn't after my hair gets a certain length. It just makes it an oily mess and nothing stays in place. Love the smell and how easy it goes in, though. But I recently replaced G&C with Gillette Flex Gel and it's much better for me.

Not sure about the difference between now and 50,60 years ago. i have heard that the UK version of brylcreem is a stronger hold and is shinier. Would like to try it....
Old enough to know better, but still to young to care!!....
I purchased a case of brylcreem nos 1980s on eBay...24 large tubes.....
I cannot comment on the Brylcreem I think you're asking about, as I've been afraid to try it. :-) My dad used it and his hair always looked, let's politely say, damp...
But, I have tried lots of products and I currently use and love the Brylcreem Cream Remouldable Invisible Hold in the little black and red tub. My hair's fairly short, but dense. I use it to nudge my hair to the side, so it's not standing straight up. Works well, lasts all day, doesn't flake like some things.
The description on the bottom of the tub says, "A multipurpose styling product that gives a strong remouldable hold without looking like your hair is overloaded" and that's pretty darn accurate.
"I found a synthetic hair in a hotel room..."
I personally really like Brylcreem, I have to work a little harder to shampoo it out of my hair but it's really no problem. I just wish it had a little bit stronger of a hold. So can anybody else weigh in on whether or not Brylcreem has changed their formula over the years?? Thanks
I remember using it in the 70s..I believe it's the same texture and scent...
For part of my career, many year ago, I worked for the company that makes Brylcreem. These companies usually have an example of the original product in a glass case in a conspicuous place where the employees as well as the public can see it so that they are aware of the brand heritage. This was true of that company as well. Plus they always like to give you the "orientation" when you come on board. I got that as well. Being a geek I asked questions - offhand and whatnot - of the people I worked with. From what I got and from my second hand knowledge (take it with a grain of salt because these companies don't dwell on the details of these things but only on the regulatory authority that governs them with their demands) Brylcreem is, with a few minor changes, still the same formula it ever was. It's main active ingredient is mineral oil and it still is today (at least according to my 4+ year old tube).

Is it the same stuff of old? Who knows? I've used it on and off for 50 years and it seems to be.
I know it works well for my thinning hair. Not a whole lot of hold, but plenty for me. I don't want crunchy. It adds a lot of shine and silkiness.
The US version is different than it used to be, the UK version is closer to the original, but still isn't the same. I've read that Master Well Comb is much like original brylcreem and can be purchased at Thegreaseshop.

I've used it on and off since I was a kid and it seems about the same to me. However, it used to come in a metal tube similar to Proraso or Musgo and now I can only find it in plastic. I miss the old tubes.
