Default WTS New Thiers-Issard straight razor, shave ready, and Dovo strop

    Hi folks,

I have a brand new Thiers-Issard "Sheffield Silver Steel" straight razor, with a 5/8 blade and Sicilian Olivewood scales. This is a new razor from Classic Shaving, which I purchased and had sent to Lynn Abrams for honing. I've never shaved with it.

However, in the time that has elapsed, I find myself using DEs almost exclusively and I could use some cash to help fund other acquisitions. Therefore, I'm putting this up for sale. It's new in its original box, wrapping, and leather carrying case. I paid $160 for it, plus $20 (well, $19.99) for the honing, for a total of roughly $180 not including shipping. I'm looking to sell it for $150 shipped. This is a great chance for you to get what is considered one of the finest straight razors available, brand new and shave ready, for cheaper than you can purchase from a store.

I don't have any pictures, but here's a link to it on Classic Shaving:

    Thanks for looking.

edit: I also have a Dovo Russian Leather strop. It's in good shape with the exception of a couple of small nicks at one end, though I don't find that they affect the performance. Paid $50, asking $25.

    welcome to b&b,

if it's in your budget it certainly will be a very nice razor to start.

i'd however suggest you start with a cheaper razor - minstrel is in sweden and he still has one of his latest vintage razors available.

the most important part of a razor is the edge, so as long as it's sharpened to shave-ready state it would be good razor to learn shaving. i can guarantee that you will not be able to tell the difference between how these two razors shave. it takes some time before you master the technique.

the TI is an excellent brand and i really like the olive wood scales. the hellberg will not look as good and it may not hold it's edge as well (or it may), and here we're talking of timescale of months. but it'll cost you 4x less and therefore i think it's a better way to find out if you like shaving with a straight razor or not.

also both are quite different razors - the TI is full hollow ground - meaning the blade is very thin, while the Hellberg is (almost) a wedge. Some people prefer one to the other, but since you are just starting you can't really have a preference until you first get good at it and they try both.

Again - it will make a great starting razor, if it fits in your budget and you like it, go for it.

Thanks sir-shave-a-lot. This forum is great.
Mental: If i presume that you are willing to ship overseas, I was just wondering what the new price that includes international shipping would be?
Since this razor is shave ready i guess it wouldnt need honing for a while?

Honestly I wouldn't recommend this as a first straight razor simply because of its price. Having gone through this myself (and now wanting to sell the razor because straights are not for me), I wish that I had simply purchased a vintage razor to begin with and not made such a large investment. Not that I don't want to sell this razor, but I'd rather be honest with you than potentially making a quick buck at your expense. Certainly it's capable of being a fine shaver for a newbie but I think there may be better options, especially from someone who is also in Sweden like Minstrel (although it looks as if he sold his last vintage razor).

Anyway, I got your email and responded to you as well, I'll wait to hear from you.

I agree completely that starting out with a shave-ready vintage for $35 - $50 is the way to go.

Tom - I really respect the way you answered this (not that you need to hear this from me, but I just wanted to say it).

I just got word from Fredrik that he has decided to take my advice and look for a vintage razor. I got a PM earlier today from another forum member who was interested, so he is "second in line" and I'm going to follow up with him. If that does not work out then I will contact you next via PM. Thanks for the interest!
