    Default Fighting Razor Burn

I have been using a combination of Tend Skin & Nivea After Shave Balm for Sensitive Skin. So far I haven't had any irritation on my face, but I'm still getting the burn on my neck. I know the first thing will be to work on my technique which is an evolving process. My question is whether or not the Tend Skin could be causing this?? It burns briefly when I put it on, causes my neck to get all red and then slowly calms down. It has also been very drying. I follow this up with the Nivea which helps bring some of the moisture back.

I've always fought irritation from shaving so I'm wondering if I should substitute a different product for Tend Skin that potentially offers the same desired outcome? Or just ditch the Tend Skin and go straight Nivea? I know a lot of you out there have battled or continue to battle the same issue and can offer some great insight.

I don't use anything that burns when I put it on, except for medicated witch hazel, but only on cuts, not on my whole face.

Pain is nature's way of saying to stop what you are doing.

redness is the same. drying also is not good.

so, you're using a product that burns, turns your skin red, and dries it out.

    What's your question again?

I use Jack Black's Post Shave Cooling Gel, or eShave's Soothing Aftershave Balm.

Neither dries my skin, burns, or turns it red.

Burn is inherited genetic trait in my opinion.

I think this is the issue here...Tend Skin contains Isopropyl Alcohol which can be a bit brutal - but apparently works well for razor bumps and ingrown hairs.

I would suggest you try a splash of plain witch hazel for post shave.

Tend Skin - Burns like hell, smells like cancer.

Tend skin is a spot treatment for a small spot or hair you think is looking ingrown or might be. It's acidic. I literally dab it on with my fingertip to one specific spot. This is not an aftershave.

    Spot then use aftershave.

Look for a product that disinfects and heals the skin. I like aloe based AS products that include witch hazel or small amounts of alcohol.

I've found that razor bumps are best delt with by a slight application of Bump stopper 2. It's the same kinda thing but has tea tree oil to calm the skin. It does'nt sting at all and is loads cheaper. Also WH gel is good as it says on the skin a little longer than WH liquid.

The WH Gel is intriguing. Do you recommend a certain brand?

I find that there are 2 things that cause neck razor burns, not enough moisturizer and wrong blade angle. Try prepping your neck and see if it makes a difference. There are many products available, I found some in my wifes cabinet

In the UK I go with 'Witch Doctor' brand. Here's the ingrediants list,

Active Ingredients: Liquid extract of Witch Hazel B.P.C. 81.5% in, a clear concentrated gel base., Also Contains: Ethanol, Propylene Glycol, Triethanolamine, Carbomer, Disodium Edetate, Menthol, Lauric Acid Diethanolamide, E142, Witch Hazel Essence.

The Menthol does have a little refreshing tingle after a shave. COmes in at around £2.50 for a 35gr tube. LAst me around amonth or so.
