Thread: Pepper Jelly

    Default Pepper Jelly

I tried out an "all natural" red pepper jelly on a pork loin a few weeks ago and fell in love with it. It was easily the best glaze I had ever used. We have a Mother's Day tradition of hitting a local park with a historic, working farm on it to see the babies, and then hitting our favorite farmer's market where I picked up one of their pepper jelly creations. I used it on some ribs the other night with less impressive results than the previous one, but now I am on a hunt. Anyone else give these a try? I've seen the most play on bbq boards for this one: http://www.texaspepperjelly.com/ and am thinking of ordering some.

Texas Pepper Jelly is great, and Craig Sherry, the owner, is a great guy. He's big on the comp circuit. I ordered some one time and when they arrived one of the jars had a loose lid and some product had leaked out. I emailed him just to let him know that there might be a problem on the production line, he sent me two jars to replace that one at no cost. Highly recommend TPJ.

All right, BingeAndPurge, where is that farmers market near Malabar? I'm headed up there in a couple of weekends.

We discovered this shortly after moving to The Deep South. Been in love with it ever since. We usually serve it up to our friends Up North when we're home for the holidays and they all rave about it!

It wasn't Malabar. Haven't been there since I was a kid. We went to Slate Run and hit Peter's on 23. Thankfully it was a cheat day because I haven't loved many foods more than the stuff in their bakery. Carmel Apple Black Walnut pie for the win. On my death row last meal list for sure.

i'm down to my last two jars of ghost pepper jelly. I basically used the recipe for habenero gold jelly and substituted a few dried ghost peppers for the habeneros. Sweet and spicy (very spicy). I usually eat it with a few friends while watching a game. It's great with a block of softened cream cheese and plenty of crackers. It's addicting stuff.

Apparently if you follow that recipe you have to use a bit more pectin than it calls for or it doesn't set properly.

I try to be strict with my paleo and sugar intake, but my love of spice and discovery of something new (to me) has got me trying this stuff on everything. I warmed up some leftover steak in the pan with my eggs yesterday and included some of the jelly with them as a condiment. It was a nice addition.
