I've been wetshaving with DE safety razors and today I got my first DFS with my Fat Boy! I had had a few issues with it previously, but I got a lot of help from the guys on this forum. My main problems though, were lather and rushing. I looked at the tutorials on the wiki and they had a great one which showed the wrong way and then the right way to make lather. Initially, I basically got a soapy film that would dry up after a few minutes. On my previous shave, I tried to follow the suggestions given and it didn't quite go as planned. Today, I nailed it perfectly. The key was to get enough soap on the brush before lathering in a bowl. I was rushing that step, not getting enough soap on the brush, and then the lather would just become a soapy film when a bit of water was added.
I also bumped up my FB from setting 5 to setting 6. I had issues with this in the past, but I think my technique was good enough to try a 6 if I took it slow. This really helped a lot. I had no razor burn on the normal areas (chin and chinstrap area, entire neck) except one tricky spot on my neck right under where the jaw connects to you skull. I got a bit of a weeper there, and a bit of razor burn.
The actually shave was extremly close in most parts. When rubbing it, I couldn't feel any stubble at all! Back when I used cartridges, I didn't even think that was possible! There were a few areas where it wasn't that soft, which is why I say this was a DFS instead of BBS. I will note these areas and try to get them better next time.
Thank B&B for all your help!
The Nuclear Shaver
