Trying to sell some stuff to buy some modern DEs. What do I need the most? I do have a 37c.

Well, I'm not sure. I like my LC New, Black Beauty from 1-3, Krona, Old Type, had a good Slant shave, and the 40s SS.

There are many fine modern DE razors out there. Since you are BOTOC pledge, I would highly recommend the Merkur 41R 1904 OC, the Merkur 12C HD, or a FaTip Grande. If you want to try something mild yet efficient, it is hard to go wrong with an Edwin Jagger DE89 or a Weber. Want the best of both worlds? How about an iKon H2O?

I,ve only owned two from your poll.
Feather AS D1 is very mild my merkur 34 hd is more aggressive.
New R41 most aggressive razor i,ve used but I like em aggressive!!!

Are you sure your not interested in a modern adjustable Futur/Proggress?

I am leaning toward an Ikon because of the head design, they are pretty, and I like skulls. Except for the slant, I am leery of Merkurs because of all of the quality issues posted lately. How do the 41R 1904 OC and 12C HD compare to the FaTip? For the money, they seem to be of better quality.

If I own a Slim, a Fat Boy, a short Black Beauty, and a Long Black Beauty, is there any advantage to a Futur/Progress? Plus the recent quality issues mentioned above.

Only advantage would be more aggressive IMO!! I,ve never had a problem with quality issues with any of my merkurs but as they say YMMV!!! Its all opinions everyones got one. Good luck with your purchase!!!

If you like the lower settings on the adjustables, maybe you can trade the R41 for an R89 or a DE89. The 89 is fairly mild, but it is a closed comb design. It sounds like you are leaning more towards the open combs.

If you don't want a Merkur Futur, then go for an iKon. Work of art.

If you want a truly beautiful modern razor consider a Joris, a Jagger Lined Bulbous or a Jagger Barley Chatsworth. These are very elegant designs, IMHO. If you prefer a more aggressive shave, the Joris is an open comb. You can also put a Muhle R41 head on either of the Jaggers for a more aggressive shave.

Leaning towards an R41 and/or a Weber (depends on some more stuff selling). They are easy to offload if I don't like them, right? Also, still love the Ikon idea, but it is the upper edge of what I SHOULD spend. Ouch, can you be more descriptive on your poor Ikon experience, please.

I must admit Alex that I am following in your footsteps. I want to try as many razors as possible, only then will I know what I really prefer. The Joris is high on my list for Open Combs, especially knowing you have used so many modern and vintage razors, and you still love it.

The Weber although I gave not tried is next on the list, although I have had to stop one addiction for this...I think though that this is better for my lungs, waist and face
