    Default SWMBO deserves better

Even though I know many guys like to refer to the woman in their life as SWMBO in a joking way, I believe it is demeaning and does more harm than the laughs it may create. I love my wife and would never call her SWMBO, as though she is some sort of ogre. That is why I refer to her as MBW which means "my beloved wife".

For all of the guys who are married and are spending money on toys like a bunch of drunken monkeys, you are showing your guilt for being careless and reckless and deserve to be held to account for your irresponsible actions. Don't try to put the blame on someone called SWMBO.

For all the guys who are not married, what difference does it make. You have nothing to answer for unless you have skipped the marriage process and are trying to steel the privileges that go with marriage but dodge the responsibility by shacking up. All I can say is you deserve what you get if you are submitting yourself to the authority of someone called SWMBO.

Let's "man up" guys and give our ladies the respect they deserve. Can the SWMBO crap and take responsibility for our actions.
    Relax...Take it easy...Enjoy the lather.

Respectfully, I disagree Dennis. I say "SWMBO" with an affectionate heart and a smile.

SWMBO is just a handy acronym. My better half's official title is grand high exalted mystic ruler.

I would NEVER call "My Old Lady" SWMBO. Especially after 43 years of marriage.

I would never call my girlfriend SWMBO. The only times I have ever used the acronym was here on B&B. It didn't feel right so I stopped.

SWMBO is a step up from TOBAC = The Old Ball and Chain. Dennis chill out, you respect your old lady and I'll respect mine.

Appreciate the sentiment, but in my opinion the acronym is a light-hearted jest. I've never seen it said in a mean-spirited way - lighten up a little.

    "Lighten up, Francis."

My wife laughs. I cherish her beyond words and most people that meet us for the first time thinks we're newlyweds. (We've been married almost 10 years) I write poetry and I'm the mushy guy that most of you would laugh at or look at in horror. (But I'm 6'5 so most people don't say what they think)

I just asked her about it thinking that maybe I was an ogre for thinking it was cute, and she giggled and said, "I don't have a problem with it....it's true. ;)"

Now don't get me wrong, I appreciate the thought and that you feel you shouldn't use that term. I don't use it, but only because I haven't been around long enough to use it here. Let's keep this all in fun. I really enjoy this place because there are not many that criticize others, or if they do they don't stick around long. There are those that joke a lot and I think it's great. It may not be 'politically correct' but if it doesn't offend the USER of it, then there should be a problem. Please just ignore it and move on.

Dennis, I do agree with you that it is demeaning to call her SWMBO. I am not going to go into the reasons; they are biblically based. We both try to give 100% to our marriage and so far it seems to be working after 17 years.
