Default Pinaud Lilac Vegetal-it smells terrible

My experience with this particular aftershave is poor. It has the aroma of old urine. I made the mistake of buying a 12ounce bottle at Christmas Tree Shops. I used about half and dumped the rest down the toilet. I have used the original Pinaud clubman and that is nice.

Just ordered a bottle yesterday. Hope I am one of the chosen.

Blashemy! The sin is that you used (then wasted) THE VEG without being divinely chosen! At least you could have PIF'd to bottle to someone. I will attempt to atone for you by using Veg all this week.

Time to call out the VEG police and combine this with the hundreds of other "VEG" threads

Couldn't agree w/you more re the smell. But it took you 1/2 the bottle to come to that conclusion?

    but everyone agrees..... IT SMELLS

    * * * * Edited to add suggestion about Master AS * * * * *

You should try the Master brand Lilac Vegetol. Still has the Lilac but it is different enough that maybe you would enjoy it.

I used the Master Lilac Vegetol yesterday

This upsets me. You could have PIF'd it...and I'm sure someone would have even paid the shipping costs too. The shave gods are angry!

Your familiarity with old urine is alarming.

I see this as a cut and dry issue. The Veg is meant to smell of lilacs, which some like but most don't. Same statistics will apply to the AS -- some like it but most don't. But I do chuckle every time this comes up and urine is mentioned. My grandparents had lilac bushes in their yard when I was a little boy, and every time I went out there I complained that their yard smelled like pee. I thought it was just their dog who lived, ate, and toileted in the backyard. Little did I know...

This is very interesting. I didn't know that many people don't like the smell of lilacs. They're my favorite flower. There are a couple of bushes planted outside the doors where I work. A few weeks ago when the plants were in bloom, I'd stop and just bask in the fragrance for a few seconds before heading in for work.

I've never smelled the Veg and have hesitated from ordering some because of the cat pee problem. But if it really is just that some people react badly to lilacs, well I might just have to give it a shot.

Daryl, what you said is very interesting. I just assumed lilacs were almost universally poo-poo'd b/c of their scent. I assumed that when I Googled "lilacs stink" that I'd be overwhelmed with hits, but most of the stuff that came up was about stink bugs. Hmmm. Suppose this is just another case of someone, namely me, unconsciously imposing their tastes on everyone else.

Check that. I just asked my girl and she concurs that many people don't like lilacs, and not in the same sense that many people also don't like tulips, roses, violets, etc. A disproportionate number of people in this case. Someone at her office always brings in a vase of lilacs for the break room and on those occasions the break room is the place to go if one wants some peace and quiet.

    But, as always, YMMV.

-DISCLAMER- I have not been chosen, nor have I tried The Veg. -DISCLAMER-

    Question(s):

    1) People think lilacs smell like urine? Really?
    2) If the answer to (1) is yes, then do some people think some people smell of urine?
    3) How to you approach someone, out of kindness, to tell them they smell of urine?
    4) If some people think lilac smells like urine, and you know, and or think that some people feel this way, how does one get around the "I think that guy smells like urine" looks?

I love the scent of lilacs!
With that out of the way, I wear scents that I like and my wife likes. I have also found that scents, perhaps above all else, possess strong YMMV attributes. However if I wear/wore a scent that someone told me, or has been discussed, that some find smell of urine, I would then consider perhaps a new scent. I also feel "to hell with what you think"!

I have been chosen by the VEG. I noticed the pee scent when taking a whiff from the bottle the first time. So, I gave the bottle a quick shake to make sure that the fragrances hadn't separated and were mixed properly. Since then nada. Even my wife likes the smell. She agrees with some that it smells similar to baby powder (powdery/floral).

This is kind of similar to asparagus and how it makes urine stink like hell. Most think they are immune and it doesn't affect their pee, but the fact is it makes most folks urine stink, but only certain individuals are "gifted" enough to smell it, I think it's like 30-40% of the population...unfortunately I'm one of them and I loooove me some asparagus.

    Woe betide the shaver who
Has poured his Veg straight down the Loo

For the Gods of Shaving he has miffed
To waste a product better PIF'd

If sadly you have not been chosen
Then PIF, don't pour, when you're disposin'

The Veg is not for every bloke
On some it's courage and cannon-smoke

On others, it's something truly sadder
Like when cannon fire decants the bladder

If the Veg offends, just pass it on
Never pour it down the John

Who is chosen, the fates decide
But to PIF is divine, and

    The Veg abides

I think that the purple colored lilacs smell amazing however the white lilac bushes smell like urine and dead fish...
