  1. Default Trouble with AOS cream

I just bought some AOS sandalwood and am just in love with the scent. When I was a little boy my big brother smelled just like this stuff. Anyway, I used it 4 times now and can't get a good lather. At first it was just pure fluff very dry. So I added product reduced water. Same thing. It seemed I was overworking it. Swirling too long so I added even more product added water slowly and work it slow and easy. got good slick lather until I applied it to my face. I always work my lather into my beard for 30-60 seconds. While applying it it fluffed up and got dry. First pass was ok then worse from there. Ive been using TOBS sandalwood cream and I get great lather from that. Anybody else have this issue? Any suggestions?

More cream AND more water, most likely.

I had similar results with most of my shaves with AOS Lavender. I used up the whole tub and I couldn't seem to nail the lather with any consistency. Most of my shaves were just as you've described. It seemed to turn to dry fluff pretty fast.

That is my "go to" cream.....use it about 80%....about 50% I bowl lather....I only use a small almond size or less...brush is one of three....either the AoS Silvertip, My fathers old Vintage Stanley Badger, or a Vie-Long Horse hair...when I first started using AoS I though too dry also....but the secret for me is more water...with my silver tip I just turn over the brush, give a very light shale and lather from there....

I can typically have enough thick cushiony lather for all my passes and have enough left over for three or four more!
I personally get best results from face lathering, and add a slight amount of water after every pass....I find the lather slicker, and thicker than my proraso/bigelow which is my other favorite cream.

just goes to show you, not every product is for everyone.

i can use a small almond sized amount in my bowl/scuttle and get 3 passes of thick and creamy lather, does not break down or get airy/fluffy. then wash down what appears to be 2-3 passes worth.

for me, i start with a drier brush when lathering AOS, then add water as i go. it starts off pasty, then i add a bit of water and lather. it starts to build up to a point, then i add more water...then i get the final product. if time permits and i'm in the mood, i'll try to do a lather video on it in the next couple of days, so you can see how mine is turning out.

I'd suggest building a lather with the amount of cream you normally use, until you reach the consistency you normally use. Keep adding small amounts of water, you may discover your lather was Fluffy & Dry due to more water being needed. I'd keep adding small amounts and rubbing it between your fingers to test the consistency and keep going until it's runny and breaks down. This should help you determine how much water you'll actually need for the amount of SC you'd normally use, one test lather could save you from the aggravation of poor lather and bad shaves.
