Thanks. It's starting to seem like the bagging that canned stuff gets may not be entirely warranted. Though the L'Occitain stuff is pretty expensive down here. I'll have a look for Aveeno too.

Well this may be rocking the boat a little but being perfectly honest here, Gillette's Gel - whether series or Fusion - has got to be the slickest of the slick. I used to have no issues using it and the wife often comments that I spend all that time with a brush to get something not as good as the stuff she uses. The foam is good too. I believe the trick is the prep. Many posters have made the point that the de makes you learn to shave, prep properly, three passes etc.

I guarantee you if you prep properly with Gillettes foams or Gels and use your hand as a brush your shave won't suffer.

It may not smell so good etc - but Jo Average isn't as fussy as us guys hence the reason it shifts in tons

Try to find the one in the red can, which has Wheat Germ Oil. Excellent stuff. I hope that the recent changes to the Proraso line-up haven`t eliminated this product.

I only like two canned products Aveeno, and Barbasol. They are both pretty decent, but really boring to use.

Thanks for your input - believe it or not, I don't have any Gillette cans to test. I keep wondering if those Fusion cans are any good - they look slick.

Wheat Germ Oil - who'd have thought? Sounds interesting, thanks.

One of my cats scrolled the page to the bottom, and I almost left a comment added to a very old thread that didn't really need a disinterment . .

I went past a store today that had Aveeno stuff placed out the front for all to see. I went inside and it transpired they only had women's Aveeno stuff, although the store sells male toiletries.

Barbasol is just fine. You need a good prep first, but it cushions and glides perfectly acceptably.

Noxzema with lanolin, aloe and dimethicone. I shoot a blob into my hot scuttle to warm it up, then apply.

Sometimes, ya' gotta' really get going in the morning. This does it for me.

I know a lot of new converts to DE or Straight Shaving turn their back on anything to do with cartridge shaving but the gels do work and prepping is the key. Because there were some nay-sayers about my comment about Edge gel, I decided to skip it to the front in its rotation just to check my own sanity. Shaved this morning - normal prep of warm water and hair conditioner, put the gel on with a brush.

No doubt about it for me - it is good stuff and better than many of my $20-$40 vanity soaps. Of course, these things are always an individual taste but there is no way I'm throwing out one of the best shaving aids just because I'm now using a straight or DE razor. Stuff works fine.

Cats are fun. My wife's tabby cat turns 20 this year, and she still manages to amuse us.

I couldn't find it on Google.

I have been using up my old gels when travelling. Still got some Zihr gel and clinique cream to get through. Both are perfectly good performers but not nearly as much fun to use.

The shaving gels are really quite easy and offer no challenge. That might be one of the reasons we fall in love with our other soaps - if you can coax a good lather out of MWF, you get a great shave and you feel like you've accomplished something.
