  1. Default Been 2 months, still no ATG

    Hello all,
I got a real straight about a month ago and had a shavette before. I do one WTG and now two XTG passes and get a decent shave. For some reason I cannot get the ATG pass to feel any sort of right except on my neck (minus the adams apple). Could it be the angle, prep? I take a shower and use an AOS cream. Usually a dab of pre shave oil. I think angle may be a problem. I try to hold the blade as close to parallel to the face as possible. Any hints?

1st pass=hold the razor FLAT against your face and slowly in short strokes go downward think of the cream/soap like slowly smearing frosting on a cake
2nd pass=slowly go upward..let the razor glide on the slick cream/soap..you should feel the blade and the hairs popping off easily
3rd pass=right to left shaving on your cheeks for example..puff out your cheeks and have the razor glide right to left sides (also visa versa) slowly and short strokes
    Hope this helps ;-)

What would the angles be on xtg and atg1?

its more about degree of blade angle..
    1st pass is flat..10%..
    2nd..is ATG..20%-30%
3rd pass=20% but it also depends on the "curves" of your face

Ill give it a shot. Real hard for me to figure out an atg on the sides of neck, as all roads seem to lead to the adams apple

Ya, it's more of a feel than specific angle.
Everyone's beard and skin is different. Follicle shape makes a difference.
You don't want to feel like the blade is scraping... that's too steep of an angle.
If the angle is too shallow, it simply will not cut.

Gave it another go, got a pretty close shave. still from jawline down is a little hard to get bbs. It does pull a little on the atg on the cheek. Not sure if it needs re honeing. just did it 3 weeks ago.

Jawline is rough because of the compound curves.

Need to move the skin to a flat area of the face by pulling up and opening your jaw, or pulling down to move the skin down below the chinstrap.

I do that but the roughness just starts lower. Growth is towards center of neck for me, so a true atg is toward the bottom of my ear which I havent figured out how to do on my neck(straight)

Are you using both hands? When working XTG/ATG on my neck, I normally keep the tang down and work the angle of the scales to clear my collarbone.

Right hand works "down" and "out" on the right side of my face/neck
Left hand works "down" and "out" on the left side of my face/neck
Right hand works "up" and "in" on the left side of my face/neck
Left hand works "up" and "in" on the right side of my face/neck

I never try to "push" the blade across my face, always "pull"
