    Default Tabac Original

I know this is a YMMV question, but i'm fairly new, and on my way to some serious AD. However, I'm trying to spread out my soap and cream purchases over a length of time. What I was wanting to know was where does Tabac measure up with more expensive brands. I have sampled some of Truefitt and Hill, TOBS, and Castle Hill, but as I drooled over some shave dens I kept noticing Tabac Original in most of the dens.

So what do you guys think. How good is Tabac? What could you compare the smell to? and how long does the scent last?

It's very good. Until recently it was near the top of the heap. VERY easy to create gobs of dense, slick lather. The scent cannot be compared to anything other than, well....Tabac. The divisiveness of this fragrance is well known. It's very common for people to hate it at first and then grow to like it, or if not, to tolerate it. It's a mix of floral, amber, and woody notes and is very strong. The scent often lasts several hours on the skin.

The scent is love it or hate it. I love it.

The scent also dies down a bit after a week or so of being open, but the lather it produce is better than anything I have had from TOBS, T&H, and GFT

It was at the top of my soap preference until I tried Harris soaps & La Toja stick. I have 2 bowls and a stick of Tabac, so I plan on using it for some time. The scent is love it or hate it. I love the scent. My wife, daughter and teenage grand daughter also say they like the scent. To be honest, I was actually surprised a teenager liked it.

I love Tabac , I think it perorms just as well as anything else I use. I don't use it much in summertime , but it gets alot of use in the cooler weather..

Great soap, easy to lather, YMMV on the scent. I like to use it in the colder months

For me it is the standard that all other soaps are measured against. It is the only soap that I make sure to have a back up puck.

If I ever narrowed down my soaps and creams to a handful (3-4) soaps and creams for a permanent rotation, it would easily make the cut. I love the unique, masculine scent, the performance is top notch, and the ceramic bowl looks great displayed on the shelf. Everything about Tabac, from the packaging to the performance, screams quality.

Sorry - I guess you are right. It's white, like milk-glass, with a Bakelite top.

It's a perfect size, too; fits nicely in the palm for a sure grip. The puck also fits perfectly into the bowl, which prevents "runaway soap" while loading.

I agree, scent is love or hate. But, but the performance...You can't hate the performance at all. It has and will always have hold a spot in my den as the easiest soap to lather.

I just picked some up last week and I love it. Between this and MWF- I'm covered; I have no desire to try anything else. (Really!)

Tabac's lather seems to feel richer and a bit more dense during application. It can be a little easier to lather than MWF. I happen to love the Tabac scent, also. When I first gave it a sniff, I was half expecting to vomit based on all the comments about it on the forums. It's definitely a stronger scent, but I don't really find it to be offensive or polarizing. *shrug* It smells manly to me- just a bit strong. I think some people may not necessarily hate the scent itself, but perhaps the VOLUME at which the scent screams. I happen to like that- it's ballsy; just like using old school razors

MWF lather, in comparison, is a bit slicker, more soothing, and leaves my skin feeling (almost indescribably) soft and nourished post-shave.

Both soaps are amazing in their own ways. If I absolutely had to pick, I'd probably pick MWF, giving it a 10.0 out of 10.0, where Tabac scores a 9.9 out of 10.0. If you're considering picking up some Tabac, do it. I wouldn't be concerned that it won't be as good as "expensive" brands; it'll probably be better!

Thanks for all the posts. I was considering picking up some Truefitt and Hill 1805. I love the smell but hate the price (especially if I'm wanting the ASB, which I would). But now it looks like i'm going to be buying some Tabac, and possibly some MWF, I've heard great things as well. Thanks for the help B&B

You should definitely try Tabac. For half the price of a T&H cream you'll get a soap that lasts longer with a seriously nice glass bowl that you can re-use after the soap is finally gone. Beware though....if you LIKE Tabac's scent, it won't be long before the aftershave and cologne grace your shelf. All 3 together look seriously cool. I love my "Tabac days" when I use them all (and the deodorant).

+1 ... nothing goes better with Tabac than more Tabac products. I have the soap, cream, ASL, ASB, EdC, and deo-spray.

Like the individual instruments in a symphony orchestra, one at a time they make good sounds, but put them all together and you get beautiful music.

As others have said, the Tabac scent cannot be compared to anything else.
Love it or hate it, it is unique.

Here is what Tabac says about itself.

And for me, it is definitely a cold weather scent.
For Springtime weather, I'm using scents like Musgo Real, Confianca and Blenheim Bouquet.
