  1. Default Just starting out

So I've recently signed up for this forum and tried to read as many articles as possible, but I still have questions and my own problems. I've had a professional shave a couple times and loved it but the barber said I have miserable facial hair... But with 60 years experience, he did a fantastic job. I also have very sensitive skin and have never been able to shave everyday. So I started with a sampler kit from the Art of Shaving and continued with my Fusion. The irritation was better, so I borrowed whatever my sister had from hair dressing school. (Marianna something) I bought some razors from for it and have shaved 3x with pretty good results. I have difficulty with my neck, but it's getting better. The depression on either side is tough to get to and around my Adams apple area has no give to it. I wish I could explain it better. In any event, it's a pretty cheap (shavette?) but I still like it. Will it get easier, and better with a straight? I can't seem to go ATG without tearing up my face too. I'd like to try the shaving soap instead of the cream, as I am almost out. Any recommendations? Am I better buying stuff off the Internet? The Art of Shaving seems pretty pricy, and I'm trying this on a pretty tight budget at the moment. Though I really enjoy shaving and I now find it pretty relaxing. Thanks for any input

Try everything you can get your hands on- there might be a PIF going around, or someone on the B/S/T board might have a couple partial pucks that you could try. If the Shavette works for you, go for it! Wait until you get a good feel for your hand before committing more $ to your RAD.

The neck...what can anyone say. Many of us here have the same problem, I know I do. The biggest learning for me was that the hair on the lower half of my neck, to some extent, grows the opposit direction to that from my chin to my adam's apple. Then the sides grow sideways-ish. I get it. Map your face, learn how everything grows, and go WTG, XTG, reverse XTG for a while. i stopped trying to go ATG until a get a smoother hand. A little more stubble? Sure, Way less blood, nicks, discomfort, burn? Hell ya. That's a trade I can live with.

Keep it up, try as many blades as you can get your hands on, find what works for you.

    Welcome!
I am hoping to acquire anything sandalwood, all help and information most welcome!

Welcome to the group .. Art of shaving sells good products , but they are on the expensive side. I usually buy from westcoastshaving.com , vintagebladesllc.com , or thesuperiorshave.com. De shaving or straight shaving will become very comfortable , but both require practice , and no pressure on razor..
