    Default Great coffee in DC?

I'm traveling to DC next week (Reston, actually) and want to know if there's any great coffee shops I need to check out in the area. I'll be on the clock from 9-5, but I'm getting in Sunday night and have mornings and evenings to myself Mon-Thur (I'm hitting the road right after Friday ends).

I'm not going up there unprepared - I'm packing a mini mill and an aeropress + disk.

hey Josh, you had recommended a roaster to me (Ceremony) which i have tried out and think they are awesome. they have an associated coffee shop (Cafe Pronto) in Annapolis, but think that might be too far for you. cool place, all the coffee is freshly brewed with pourovers as you wait.

As far as DC goes, i have heard great things about Peregrine but havent been there yet. http://peregrineespresso.com/

Only been to baked and wired once but it was good (of course this was before i knew anyhting about coffee, so YMMV). http://bakedandwired.com/ they do pourover as well using Intelligista coffee

are you coming into DC each day? If not, Reston is pretty far from DC (about 30-40 minutes) just for coffee, especially rush hour.

No, I'm in Reston all day every day for training, so I was looking for outside of DC. I might sneak into town for Ceremony once, though.

oh, ok. sorry i dont have any places out that ways. Ceremony is in annapolis, which is another 30 minutes east of DC. they have a coffee shop attached to the roastery, as well as a seperate coffee shop in annapolis as well. the guys at the roastery are super nice, they always take time to explain the coffees to me, etc. The smell is awesome since they roast on site. limited hours though, only open to 4pm weekdays!

Murky Coffee went out of business so I have no suggestions...

If you're into beer, you could check out the Dogfishhead Ale House in Falls Church.

I was planning on packing some Triangle Belgian Golden for the trip. It's local and tasty.

    Excellent!

I lived on Capitol Hill before moving to Saint Louis. The DogfishHead Ale House was "in the burbs" so I never made it out to visit before moving, but looking online it looks awesome.

STL is a great beer city, but sadly no Dogfishhead. You can drive to Illinois though and pick it up. Silly distribution laws.

Also, Reston is very near the Udvar-Hazy Center, which is like the hangar of the Air and Space museum:

It's very cool. Definitely worth a visit since you'll be nearby.

Swing's on G right off 17th. But they're not open on weekends.

I recommend going to Misha's Coffee (http://mishascoffee.com/) in Alexandria.

Also, Baked and Wired (http://bakedandwired.com/) in Georgetown uses Intelligentsia and Stumptown. They also sell Ceremony coffee but they weren't serving it last weekend.

No, never had the time, really. I ended up just brewing my home-roasted Baroida in my aero-press. I was pleased.

Hey Josh. Sorry I missed your thread. I work in Reston, VA in my 9-5 job. We could have hooked up for a lunch or a dinner somewhere. Shoot me an email if you are in the area again and perhaps we can get together. Cheers,
