I know many point and shoots (every Canon I had, for example) has a "custom white" setting, where you take a pic of a white sheet of paper under the light you intend to use and it will balance it automatically, usually with pretty good results.

If you use florescent lights as your indoor lighting, be sure to use daylight spectrum instead of the warm light spectrum because the warm light turns your shots of nickel and chrome razors into a funky nasty washed out brass color. I just use a free standing lamp and put one daylight spectrum florescent and use it along with my flash to help provide balance.

    Not possible.

99% of the badger hair used in brushes originates in China.

To avoid Chinese content, you need to stick with boar or synthetic.

OTOH, the knot is supporting farmers who kill the badgers, as they are considered pests that damage their property.

Many of the synthetics are also made in China as well, but both Muhle and Artist Brushstrokes (H.I.S. Shaving Brush) are not made in China.

    Of course.

My point was that you need an option other than badger to avoid China.
It's still going to take some homework.

That is true. It takes more homework than many realize if they want to avoid China as a link in the supply chain.

Thanks. I meant to reference the production of the final product. Unfortunately it is almost impossible to get anything that doesn't have some component made in the PRC. I may be mistaken but I believe China is one of the few countries that can even hunt badger anymore.

I bought a beard trimmer a few years back. The packaging had stated in bold letters "Made in the USA". Upon opening I found china on many of the guards. In small print on the instructions it stated that it was assembled in the US. Well...at least there was an American production component to the manufacture.

I should rephrase my earlier comment. If their is a reasonably priced and available alternative, I would by the alternative based on principle. Of course I own and buy Chinese made goods.

Many northern European countries still have legal badger hunting seasons.

So I heard back from the vendor regarding the Frank Shaving Brush:

    Thanks!I received the photo.

The hair knot is little bit off center as you said.It should my labor's working fault when pasted the hair knot. For the loft,as you know this is a normal product,so I have to make it in a public acceptable size. But I can make a shorter one(of 48mm-50mm loft) for you next time if you like.

    Thanks

So, he agrees that the knot is set in a sucky way. He concedes it is the fault of his worker. He makes no offer to make it right. Instead, he thinks he is going to get a second chance with me after selling me a sucky brush that does not meet the specs in his listing, which can be viewed here:

    http://www.ebay.com/itm/Finest-Badge...00620938572420

Of course, he has to make it in a "public accepted size"????

The brush measures out at a loft of 63MM, here are his specs from the listing:

    • Base: 3.5cm
    • Smallest point of handle:2.7cm
    • Width of bristles at base: 2.3cm
    • Width of bristles at top: 5.4cm
    • Length of bristles: 5.2cm
    • Weight:60g

So I gave them the chance, and I will not retract my statement that this outfit makes brushes that SUCK!!!!! with customer service to match.

He did not address the 11mm variance against his own measurement and then wanted you to buy a custom made brush? Wow!

Well, you will have a custom brush, except that it will be made custom by you!

I am sorry this ended this way, but thanks for sharing this because I have really enjoyed their synthetic brush. Since I am now into restoring my own as well, I will pass on any more FS brushes.

Maybe there was an error in conversion from cm to mm. Probably just an honest mistake. You know...That tricky metric system on base ten , moving that decimal point over one number can get confusing.

When I first read your post I thought "you've got to be kidding me!" Then I read the rest of it.
