Default Help my find a new bevel setter

I am looking for something a little faster than my King 1k for setting bevels. I have been looking at the Chosera 600 and have thought about a DMT 600/1200. I have heard that the DMT's act coarser than the grit rating. I would eventually like to buy a Chosera 1K to replace my King so I might just go with the Chosera. But can anyone else convince me to get something else or talk me into the Chosera.

no idea on the King as I have never had one, but if you want a fast bevel setter get the DMT 1200, then use your king to clean up what the DMT does.

I use the DMT 1200, it's fast & easy. But the from reading this board, everyone who tries the Chosera 1K, prefer it over the DMT.

Is this the one that ya'll are referring to? Or the one with the holes?

That's what I have, but I know of a few people that have the one with the holes and they are supposed to work just as well.

I started with the regular DMT (DiaSharp) and then just recently picked up the one with the holes (DuoSharp), and I prefer the DuoSharp now.

So no one likes the Chosera 600 over the DMT? I'm looking for something lower than 1k

I have the Duosharp 600/1200, it is amazing. I can set a bevel on the crappiest razor in a few minutes, I have even done wedges without problems. For most razors 20 laps on the 1200 side is all it takes, on stubborn ones hit them with the 600, followed by the 1200

They are always flat, no soaking, no downside.

That's the one I had in mind for a DMT Doc. I think I'll try that. If I don't like it down the line I can buy a chosera 1k and still use the 600 DMT. Thanks guys.

I hate setting bevels on a DMT. I have several, 220/325 duo, 325, 600 & 1.2k Dia. I dislike the scratch patterns, and the feel. Yeah - they work. So does sandpaper.
I do like using them to lap stones though - but not Jnats.

I have the 400x and 800x Choseras... I also had the 600x. I sold the 600x because I didn't need it along with the others.
The 600x is fast...but I prefered using the 800x. The 800x was easier to work with because it's a hair slower.
I only use the 400x when I have to re-bevel a breadknifed blade or something. And I pay very close attention when I do use it.
If I was only going to have 2 - it would be the 600x and the 1k.
Feedback - to me - is very important. honing on a DMT is the sharpening eqivalent of running a fingernail across a chalkboard.
Granted - they're utilitarian, functional, thin, durable and you don't have to soak them. Yawn.
I found that I get better results with a 1kC and I'm happier when I'm using it.
You can get a 1/2 thickness Choseras from Jende if cost is the issue.

if i was a new honer and knew what i know now. i would choose a diamond plate or sandpaper, i prefer sandpaper on a granite block or glass. it is fast easy and foolproof. clean it up afterward with the proper stones and u have it.

If you don't like the DMT you're getting, try the Chosera 1K. I don't know how it compares to the King 1K, but I do know that I like the Chosera a heck of a lot better than the Norton 1K.

A quick stint on a Duosharp at 600 on a razor that needs it works well for me to prep for the Chosera 1K. Otherwise, right to the 1K with or without slurry.

The Chosera is all you need. It is extremely fast (especially with slurry) and leaves a very nice "1K" edge. Probably better than your king. I have a chosera 400 and though it is a bit faster, really the 1K is all I need. I only use the 400 for major edge repair, but ultimately the 1K is quite capable of the job. Haven't touched my DMTs save for lapping since acquiring the chosera.
