    Default D.R.Harris Windsor Arrives

I finally received the new D.R. Harris Windsor shaving cream and EdT this morning. My description of scents is not the best, but I would descibe it is a citrus scent with a certain similarity to Penhaligon's Blenheim Bouquet, slightly sweeter and without the peppery element. It smells heavenly to my nose, and can't wait to use it tomorrow morning.

Anyone know where it can be purchased in the US and does it only come in a cream?

I would have totally gone for the soap, but I have never tried DR. Harris creams. Are they good?
I could probably load Tabac on a Q-tip and still get a decent lather

One of the members at SMF is in the UK. He contacted Harris just a few days ago and it happened that the Windsor had just then arrived at Harris's brick and morter store in London. He was told there will be a soap, but it hasn't completed the manufacturing process, and will be along at a later date. As far as I know, it's so new it hasn't had time to be distributed to vendors. The SMF member bought a sample of the shaving cream and has posted about it on SMF. His review was positive.

. . . He went around back and into the basement because he was hungry. He ate cold beans out of a can and drank some water, and then he saw the small mirror Parker had bought with the razor and the can of lather. He looked at himself and knew he had to take a chance on staying long enough to shave. He shaved, and that made him feel better. . .

I remember reading somewhere that the soap is planned, but they weren't happy with it and are working to make it better before releasing it, but couldn't get it done before the launch of the rest of the line

So, it sounds like I've got a few weeks to work through my tremendous backlog of other soaps/creams...

Harris posted on their Twitter that you can write them for a free sample. I already had notice that mine has been posted, so it's open to US residents as well.

It's in the works. They are testing their formula and not quite happy with it at the moment from what I've heard.

I haven't purchased a soap in about a year, but I get a feeling when this is released I will have to break that streak.

I couldn't resist and wrote for a sample. I also took the liberty to tout a soap version, and asked that they consider offering their Rose scent as a soap as well. Best of all, I'm still in the Sabbatical!

I finally took my first shave with the new Windsor shaving cream this morning. The scent is simply outstanding. My impression, as I stated in my initial post, was that it had similarities to Blenheim Bouquet. Harris has now confirmed that it is a scent with citrus overtones, maturing in to a warm leathery scent with notes of black pepper and vetyver. This scent is more subtle than BB, less peppery, and of the two, I prefer it. I am very much a soap user, creams being of very limited experience. I always find that creams never quite give me quite the level of protection a good soap can provide. The Windsor cream is my first Harris cream, and lathering it up was a doddle. Unfortunately I made the mistake of using my new Simpson Duke 2 brush, so the scent was somewhat overpowered by the badger smell. The lather is slick and a great shave resulted. I easily rate it as good as Trumper's and T&H, although Castle Forbes, for me, is the one to beat. Overall I would give this cream a rating of 9/10. Hopefully the soap will not be too far behind. I will be grabbing it as soon as it becomes available. I am very familiar with the Harris soaps and if the Windsor scented version is every bit as good as the current range, I will be exceptionally happy. Dare I say that I can see it knocking Arlington of my top spot!
