Question, (2 really), why would you "shim" that razor and how do you do that?

Ever Ready 1914 / GEM SS
Traut and Hine Automatic thanks to Drumzalot who show me what blade and how to load it.
Loaded with a Schick injector blade. The razor is very light and maneuverable I liked the feel of the razor in my hand usually I love the heaver razors. The razor gave me a good mild shave, I would compare it to a later GEM like a Contour. I wonder what the original blade would have been like to shave with. Picked up this razor on a lark off the "Bay" Glad I was able to use it. Anyway to sum up, nice shave and interesting to use an off brand razor like this that's about 100 years old.
