Default Finished with wooden shaving bowls

    I have 8 wooden shaving bowls that I purchased with the corresonding soaps, Now that I am getting the knack of 'this soap thing' I am faced with a dilema; what to do with the bowls. They cost an arm and a leg and with hindsight I should have just purchased the puck. Do any of you ditch the bowl and lid once finished or do you keep them 'for another day' or when you SSAD kicks in? For the record I have the following bowls whose 'contract' is about to expire;
    Trumpers Eucris
    Trumpers Rose
    Harris Arlington

The Arlington is worth buying a new puck but the other 2 I am not too enamoured with. The C&E Nomad is yet to be broken in as is the Harris Marlborough. I also have a TOBS Sandalwood and a trumpers sandalwood. SWMBO wants the empty Eucris for her ear-rings which I will grant her.The Tabac ceramic tub is also another pleasant addition to any bathroom shelf. There are 2 more that I'm not sure about where they came from as they are very old with no name on.

Only buy the wooden bowl once, but then hang on to it. Replacement pucks fit nicely, at least from the same company.

Wooden bowls?? Sell them...I find them a bit useless anyway and certainly not worth the cost. Check out World Market (or similar store that carries a lot of Asian stuff) or better yet, Ikea.
World Market has a great inventory of classy Rice bowls which work great for both soap storage and bowl lathering..look cool too.

Ikea is the pinnacle of function over flash. These fit most pucks (I have a MWF in mine. Looks like it came from the factory that way). Great bargain for $5

BST... I like having the bowls with the name of the soap on it as I have so many soaps that I forget what is in which unmarked container.

I would be a buyer of empty marked bowls such as Arlington or Nomad or Cella or Valobra, or Vitos etc as I like these soaps but only have refill pucks (or kilo cuts) in unmarked (generic) wooden bowls

Great idea with the Ikea containers, and I think they actually look good with their minimalist design. But...don't they rust? I find that usually these cheaper items, even if they're made of stainless steel, still have poor seams where they tend to rust. If not, I think I'll be making a trip to Ikea this week.

I didn't think I'd buy a different bowl to lather in, but with my new Vulfix 2236 (big knot, big loft, big handle) I need a larger bowl (or at least a deeper one)...is this what you are talking about?

Oddly enough Wal Mart has some nice looking bowls for $2.50-$3.50 too

Decent and aestetically pleasing shave bowls are certainly not hard to find

What do you suggest for those without an Ikea near us? They don't sell those tins online. I would love to get some of those little gruntal tins to use for soap, but the nearest Ikea is about 2.5 hrs away for me.

I saw some similar containers here but find myself wanting the magnetic backing of the Ikea ones. I can pass those off as our new spice containers to the wife

Found some on Ebay, but they are twice the price. Guess I need to plan a trip or bite the bullet. Guess, I can't have everything

I guess someone who lives near an Ikea could pick them up for you and either-

    1. Mail them to you
    2. Deliver them

Tell you what.....if you can't find another way to acquire these little gems, let me know; see what I can do.

Cool I love the wooden bowls

    Well,

I'm clearly in the minority here, but I love the wooden soap bowls. My shave den is rather modest at this point, as I have only been DE shaving for about five months. I have seen pictures of the shave dens some of my brethren have amassed, and . . . WOW. The collection B&B member "Churchill" has put together is breathtaking!

For now, I have only three soaps, and I have a wooden bowl for each. They look good on the bathroom counter -- and I only get ones that match my shaving brush holder, etc. They add a touch of class to my otherwise utilitarian bathroom.

My plan is to have a wooden bowl for each soap in my rotation -- and replace each soap with a new puck once I use it up. I may have to rethink this plan as Shaving Soap Acquisition Disorder works its way deeper into my system. Not sure how my system would work with 10, 20, or 30 soaps.

On the other hand, numerous bowls would be the perfect excuse to purchase a Shave Den Shelf -- or even a Shave Den Station (a manly-looking dresser, perhaps).

On a related note, I will NOT be posting pictures of my Shave Den (with wooden bowls) until July, when I move into the home we just purchased. In a moment of weakness, I agreed to let my wife paint the master bathroom in our current house. The color she chose: "Rose," as labeled on the can. The actual color: "Pepto Bismol Pink." It is truly awful. I do not want to display my otherwise-manly shave den in its current frilly pink locale. Nope. Not gonna happen.

Sadly, I have no need of wooden bowls at present. I just bought a bowl from Lee's Razors in anticipation of buying the Cedarwood Sage Shaving Soap from The Copper Hat. Brad Julicher, the owner, makes beautiful brushes. http://www.thecopperhat.ca Brad is really fun to deal with, and his brushes have been well-received (one got a positive review on B&B).

I'm getting the Cedar Sage soap along with a custom brush. Like I said, Acquisition Disorder has taken hold.

    Cheers.

I am fond of the wooden bowls and have used them for many years. I refill them when they are empty. If the bowl needs a little help with a refinishing or resealing I do that, but it has only been necessary a time or two. I enjoy the aesthetics of the wood bowl and have built a shelf to accommodate several of them.

    Regards,

This will last longer than a wooden bowl, and only cost me $6 (puck of MWF inside).
