Funky - is that what it smells of... (Mine's on a Tweezerman)

Bought a Tweezerman a couple of weeks ago and gave it a quick wash, initially with MWF, but WOW, brown lather and rinse water, so gave it another wash with some proraso and a bit of shampoo, and it was ok, but when wet it really reeks, but oddly, it’s an almost Oniony smell, not particularly a ‘hair’ smell; is this the funk frequently mentioned? I'm afraid I have to ask, because I’ve never actually had a pure Badger before, only boar and a mixed one and they didn’t really have any odour (or coloured water!).

Anyway, I’ve used it for a couple of shaves, and I’m hoping the pong will ease off soon.

I started out with a tweezerman and it had some funk for about 5 shaves, not as strong as you're describing.

I just recently got an omega 49 boar, and it smelled like old lady farts blowing through an onion for a long time, it's finally calming down but it was a tough go for a while. Just had to do cleaning lathers as I was afraid to touch it to my face.

Hi Cheapogit.....i use a tweezerman also. Mine had more of a "hair" smell as you mention, especially when wet, but it wore off after about 10 or 15 lathers. I never washed or conditioned it like i've learned about since. I like the brush tho...its broken in nicely. The only downside is that the knot fell out a couple weeks ago. The glue holding it in gave way. I took some rough sandpaper and roughed the inside of the brass ring so the glue would have something to 'grip' and ran a bead of Gorilla glue around the base of the knot and reset it. Been working fine ever since. I hope you get the smell out of yours........keep us posted on how you make out......cheers, rich

I too started out with a tweezerman, and it smelled like a dead skunk every time I got it wet. I gave it a quick soak in vinager and washed it with some dog shampoo and after 4 to 5 more latherings the smell went away. Now after three months it is completely odor free. Great brush...

I have a 49, a hefty brush, and it was my first (and only, for some time) brush some years ago, but I don't remember any problems with it, and with that, I think I just started using it after purchase, not knowing, at that time that washing it may be required and make a difference (I was just 'lucky' it didn't need it).

It's made from natural products, so there's always some variation between different ones.
Give it 4 or 5 more shaves, the stink should disappear pretty fast.

I washed my new boar brushes with dawn several times. Not sterling results. Washed them several more and set them in the sun. Worked......FWIW

That's the best description I've heard. How do you know what old lady farts smell like?

I had a TGN Finest with this problem. It took dish soap, borax, and vinegar to tame it to tolerable, and about a month to become neutral smelling after the washings. I still have the brush, and it is a nice brush. My Tweezerman got shampoo, rinsed out darkish water with the shampoo, and was fine till I PIF'd it. I found it too scratchy.
