Default Sweden - Good choice for a short break?

Been discussing with a good friend about going to Sweden for a 5 day break around August/September and having never been before I wondered if any of you had been there and if you would recommend it?

Obviously Stockholm has been mentioned but Gothenburg also came up in conversation.

Am currently looking at the Trip Advisor website to find out what various places have to offer.

I've never been but often wanted to. I believe it's clean, safe and many people speak English, but it's also expensive.

Maybe you could try and visit Trollhaaten, the birthplace of Saab?
Scooter~ ...and I guess you'd say I'm on my way to Burma Shave...

I wouldn't go to Trollhättan. Come to Stockholm, 99% of all Swedes understand and speak English. It's a clean city with a lot of things to do here. The only thing I'd say that is a bad thing is the cost of everything. Expensive. You could just about name anything in London (like shoes) and the price in Sweden would be atleast the triple.

Sounds like there is a wonderfully sordid story behind this....

I went to Stockholm for grad school trip and it was fantastic. It was about this time of year, weather great, and the people were awesome. I just walked around town taking everything in, went to the wasa museum. The trip was only 4 days through, I want to go back with my family and spend more time.

Be there or be square. Only I can do both!
I've got a cat named Beefeater and a dog named Beefeater, and two goldfish called Beefeater and Beefeater. There's Beefeater my hamster and Beefeater my horse, and my piglet, known as Beefeater of course.

Why doesn't the Swedish efficiency team ever come up?

Look, Bjorn's productivity is increased 14% in that pose, while Henrik's stance is optimum for brainstorming.

Where are you going? If it's Stockholm I can recommend some places to go since I've lived here all my life.
I am sure you will enjoy it and judging from how the weather has been recently I am pretty confident we will get a long summer so it will probably be warm and nice in august!

A place you definitely should go to is the old town, "Gamla Stan". It has some very nice architecture but it is sort of a tourist trap so just stay out of the tax free shops but the restaurants and cafés there are nice.
Another "must visit" place is Djurgården which is a small island that is located fairly central. It has some nice nature and many big oaks that were planted there to be used for making ships. There are many museums there but the only museum there I can really really recommend is the Vasa museum that has the old pride and shame of the Swedish navy. It was our biggest battleship but it sunk before it ever saw combat because the balance was off and it is preserved in pretty good condition and out for display there with some nice history around it and the time it was built.

I really don't have any special recommendations regarding food but there's a danish chain of restaurants called "Jensens Böfhus" that can give you a decent steak dinner for a small amount of money, at least by Swedish standards. I find that the general quality and price of restaurants are nicer in London but then again I am a lover of Indian food and plenty of that over there!

One last thing worth noting is that there are not many wetshaving related things here but I've found one place that sells DE blades though they're quite expensive but that's just in case you can't pack any with you. They carry Shark, Astra and Personnas I think.

If there's anything more, just ask!

Oh no, please don't go to the Jensen boefhouse if I may say so. Sweden is at the absolute top of culinary pyramid. Take the opportunity to visit some Mazing restaurants instead. Some may be crazy expensive, but also amazing. Do your research and make sure to book in advance. Please dont fly half around the earth to not try some of the best Europe has to offer.
And I got one tip that you absolutely can't miss. Not to expensive, not to fancy, but the atmosphere, and the surroundings.
Go to the island fjaderholmarna for an evening and just take in the beginning of the beautiful archipelago of Stockholm.
Im in the restaurant business, and keep some attention on what's going on. Don't hesitate to ask. Can give you som hotel advice to.
