I am wanting a Puma straight razor.I prefer 6/8 but I might be able to live with a 5/8.
I have searched but I do not understand what the model numbers mean so I am not searching for a specific model number but I am wanting full hollow and jimps.

Paul,
I haven't seen too many 6/8 Pumas. They are out there for sure, but most of what I see is the 5/8 and smaller size. As you know, price tends to rise exponentially with size and Pumas are no exception.
A run of the mill Puma runs in the $100-150 range, and they are good shavers.
There are some very rare ones, such as the Puma Gold, that command big money. Here are a couple recent listings, this and this. I assume you are not looking for something like that, however. If you can find one cheap, its well worth the trouble. I have a couple Pumas but I really like my Puma Gold.
I also have heard much better things about the carbon steel ones, as opposed to the stainless steel versions. The stainless ones are much newer I believe, and they should have it stamped or etched on the blade. Inox, or something to that extent.
Just wanted to give you some background, and maybe help you narrow down your search

I have a 5/8 Puma Special 88 I can let go. Bought here last fall, it was honed by Lynn, and I put it aside and forgot about it.
PM me if interested. How much are you looking to spend?
I bought the razor from a guy in SF whose name I don't recall off hand but he's a long-time member over at SRP.com. I sent it directly to Lynn for honing to make it shave-ready, and I have to believe it is although I haven't used it since getting it back.
There is one flaw. I only found this AFTER I got the razor back from Lynn. I emailed him to ask about it and he said he had made a note of it upon receipt. There is a small crack in the hinge-end of one scale.
It doesn't go all the way through to the other side, held up to his honing/stropping, and he didn't think it would be a problem. Even if it had to be rescaled it's still valuable.
I was going to ask $100 for it, I know they sell for more. Make me an offer.
