Default Has there ever been a SE holder to hone blades?

I was thinking of making one but thought I'd see if such a thing ever existed.

    Cheers,

    Ken

Technically, those are specifically for stropping. For honing you'd need something that would allow you to push the blade on a stone, like the Warner-Jones or Stag (both below), or many other similar devices that are out there.

I like both of those. Are they "findable"?

Sure. There are plenty of them out there. A quick look on eBay or Etsy or just around local antique shops should turn up several of those and other brands.

I see a Warner Jones for $80. Is that a reasonable price?

Whoa! Not at all. I did a quick search of completed listings and I don't see any selling over $20.

Whoa! I seem to recall somebody on here, a few weeks ago, got one with a razor for 5 or 10 bucks!

Well, you have all been very helpful! At least set the general area. Honestly, if $80 WAS the going price, I'm just not THAT into it 99 cents would be great but I'm not expecting that either. But I'll spend a few bucks to try one of these out. We'll see what happens.

    Thanks again!

Wow... looking at those two cases... they look like torture instruments :) Has anyone ever posted a video on youtube or elsewhere to see how these work?

That's good to know, though I'm pretty well set up on hones from my few years dabbling in straight razors. Then, you can never have too many great hones, eh?
