YMMV and all that, but living is not particularly safe. Most of the choices we make involve balancing different risks. Here it is a question of dosage. A little topical alum after shaving can reduce the risk of infection and promote healing. But if you eat that same block of alum, you might regret it.

The folks at skindeep rate potassium alum as a low risk, on par with menthol. It has a number of non-cosmetic uses too, and chances are that you come into contact with some of them without even knowing it.

I included the Speick AS lotion in my order from West Coast Shaving the day before it was the Deal of the Day. It was still in process and hadn't even been shipped or anything. I wrote them asking if I could get the deal since my order hadn't even been processed, but was rejected. Ugh.

I found it last week for 8.59 euro. However it's not that easy to find. I finally found some in a pharmacy in a small town. Surprisingly, I walked into a huge cosmetics store with 4 two sided aisles of men's shading products(about10' long each)and couldn't find it there.
