Smile Tallow from Spain! Vintage La Toja Manantiales and new Lea

It's been a pretty darn great week for me. It started with some sweet brushes and a fp I got on loan to play with, and today a box of tallowy goodness from Spain. Shout out to Mark and Luis, a couple of exceedingly generous souls. I did a little logistics work getting a certain brush to Spain, but did nothing to earn this epic tallow score: vintage La Toja Manantiales, and a couple of new Lea soap sticks. Yes, you read that right. I missed out on getting this soap before they discontinued the La Toja, but I guess this will make up for it a little bit.

I didn't know about the reformulation of Lea to tallow until very recently, but sure enough, there it is. This is the same soapy scent, with perhaps a touch of citrus I remember from the old Lea. But, let me tell you, this is not the same soap, gents.

The only scent here is the earthy, clay-like smell of tallow soap. This is exactly the scent of an AoS puck I tried. This is my first vintage soap! I recall reading about the old La Toja stick being tallow, but don't know anything about the history of La Toja Manantieles. What a score!

I lathered up the Lea with my 1XL. I didn't shave with it because, well, you know, I had to try the La Toja too. This is nothing like the bubbly lather of the old Lea stick. This is dense, yogurty lather. It will be tomorrow's shave. Anybody else got their hands on tallow Lea?

And here's a LE Simpson, loaded up with vintage Manantiales. Great shave.

Holy freaking Vintage La Toja Moly! All this for getting a particular brush to Spain...has to be Piccasso paint brush. Great score and darn good week.

    wow, what a lucky guy!

So spill the beans, what do you think of the quality of the lather from the new LEA stick?

Test lather looks great to me--I think it's going to stand up to the standard sticks very well, and I imagine at a darn good price point. I'll be shaving with it in the morning. The container is pretty good, though the base doesn't hold the stick very securely and the stick has no wrapper. But I've wrapped it in some wax paper, and it should be good to go.

nice pickups. i got a LaToja Manantiales a month of so ago, from a B&B member (new and unused) and it's amazing. i use it as a giant shave stick (recommended by someone here) and it works incredibly well.

it feels odd using it that way, but it seems to work as the wood bowl, is not the best for swirling in.

    enjoy!

Just amazing, Vlad! And, by the way, I'll also soon receive a great pack from Barcelona (thank you Luis!). Mine will include a new Lea stick, five La Toja sticks and an Artisan soap "Jabonman" that is currently only sold in Spain. Luis told me it's wonderful!

Ooh... That tallow Manantiales looks interesting! It does look a lot like AOS pucks.... Looks similar in color to vintage Old Spice pucks, too...

That's a great gift you have there Vlad. Luis is a true gentlemen. Not so long ago, he saw a post in the SOTD I had written, and sent me(at his own expense), a bottle of the discontinued Spanish Floid Blue. It took him 2 weeks to find one too!

    Great scroe Vlad!

Are the ingredients listed on the vintage Manatiales label?

I wonder how the old formula compares to the last version before it was discontinued?
