Thread: New to B&B

    Default New to B&B

Just thought I would Say hello, and give a little information about myself. Somehow I feel like I’m in either a 12step program or grade school with that statement, but I digress.

As I stated I’m new here, and to wet shaving, and by new I mean I haven’t started yet, but I’m very interested, and found this sight while I was researching the proper equipment for me, and where to start.

Now for me, I’m 34, and I’m a manufacturing engineer, in a manufacturing facility in central Indiana. Currently I sport a well trimmed, well most days well trimmed, beard. I’m looking into wet shaving and DE razors in specific, for both when I do a full shave, and for my daily or thereabouts, maintenance trimming around my neck and cheeks, and where ever else I have arrant hairs. I have had it with the disposables, and the replacement blade razors. I feel that there is no need to have 5 blades to do what I used to do with 1. Also, I have been trying to find hobbies that my wife doesn’t know are hobbies; they are useful, and not too costly, unlike most of my hobbies.

Speaking of hobbies, I like to ride motorcycles, and ATV’s, also, I have been somewhat of a cigar collector, and as of late pipe collector, I would say smoker, but I haven’t smoked either a pipe or cigar in quite some time, Indiana winter and all, so right now I just look at them and tend to the humidity and such, so they are like my own stamp collection. I have also been getting into craft beers, and I have been a bourbon guy for quite some time now.

Well, I look forward to learning lots here, and as for now, I believe a Merkur 34C is in my future.

Well, jump right in and have a great time! I don't know about the part where this hobby is not too costly. Just ask my wife who now has adjusted our budget to include "male grooming supplies."
Wishing I was back on the AT.

Welcome to B&B, and thanks for sharing. Not too costly...at first! Probably like most of your hobbies. Just a couple of Partagas...couple of R&Js...Hoyo de Monterey (epicure #2's of course). Sure each one is cheap, but then you need the hygrometers, another humidor to put them in....

Same with this. It's a sickness we all call a hobby. And love.

Welcome, 1300Rider. This is a fun hobby. Can become expensive if you let it. And that's easy to do as my SWMBO has found. Good to have you join us.

Thank you all for the warm welcome, and I look forward to the slid down the new slope.

Also, let me clarify, I was meaning less expensive than the motorcycles and ATV. I figure that I will end up spending as much as I did/do on the cigars and the pips, which by the way were my cheaper alternative to the cigars, more up front but less over time, and I do tend to use them more than I end up smoking cigars, due to my available time, cigars are mostly smoked on vacation and camping trips, where I am more likely to smoke a pipe on the way to work or on a weekend, because it isn’t the end if I don’t have time to finish, and a cigar is a hour or two vested. And a plus for me selling my wife on the DE is that I will save money on razors, the blades are relatively cheap as opposed to the disposable or cartridge type razors that I use now. And shaving soap is more natural than the cans of shaving gel I use now and cheaper also. And all I have to do is spend a little more on the up front razor that will last a life time. she even told me that she has her grandfather’s old DE that I can start with, I haven’t seen it yet and don’t know what it is, but it was my grandfathers old DE that I used to play with as a child that sparked my interest in them, and the recent state of disposable razors (junk) has rekindled my interest.

And she sold my old truck today so I should be able to squeak the first hundred or so dollars worth of starter stuff through while she is ecstatic to be rid of that, even though it is just traveling across the yard to her parent’s house, but we’re not plating and insuring it anymore, so she is happy.
