    Default Practice DE shaving

I'm still using a fusion because it's REALLY hard to find de blades in HK but I want to start learning. Today I was wondering if the trimmer on the back of a Fusion could be a practice tool for getting into de? I just tried and it seems SMOOTH.

That trimmer really does not translate to de shaving at all. I used to have one. Threw it in the bin

The best thing would be to keep using your Fusion, but lock your wrist while you are making your passes and focus on the direction of your beard growth. By locking your wrist, you will not be taking advantage of the pivoting motion of the head. Do you have the DE razor yet?

Even if you do get a nick or cut it's nothing you'd even feel an hour later. No worries there. Find yourself a nice razor and start shaving!

Yup. The only way to learn to swim is... swimming!!!!

Don't be scared at all. Just be patient, focus on right angle and apply NO pressure whatsoever. You'll love it!

    Good luck!

A bic sensitive (around here they're the cheapest disposable razors you can find) is probably a better tool to simulate DE shaving, it's a single blade, non pivoting head and honestly not a bad razor aside from weighing next to nothing.

    This.

Locking you wrist while using a pivoting razor isn't going to teach you anything, because the razor still compensates for incorrect angle.

This was my gate way into DE shaving. I then chose an inexpensive DE razor and fell in love. I have an Edwin Jagger on its way and a super badger brush with multiple creams.

When I started single blade shaving, I used BIC Metals. They are single blade razors and nicely sharp. They have very little weight, though. They are NOT like the BIC Sensitive or other disposables, as you do have to pay attention to blade angle; the razor/cart does not set it for you. I don't know if you can find them where you are.

I would highly recommend NOT using the Fusion trimmer to shave with...it was designed for trimming. I agree with the gents who suggested the various Bic models to start off with.

I think I can order it online. Just need to take a look at the shipping.

In fact before I started this thread I actually tried shaving with the trimmer. I was pretty surprised it did a good job and without irritation... so I just wanted to get some expert opinions. But after all I guess I should just stick with the real shaving gears.
