    Default Need a new watch

I managed to break my watch on the weekend (think someone spiked my drink resulting in me having no control of my functions etc but that's another story).

Anyway I'm looking for a half decent day to day watch for work & general wear. Not really after anything that flashy and am looking to limit myself to £150 (think that's around the $240 mark for folks across the pond)

I quite like square or odd shape faces or something oversized as I have large wrists. Any ideas?

    How about the Seiko Monster?

Not a fan of that Seiko - really don't like watches with rotating bezels as it makes then look a bit 'gimmicky' if you get my drift.

Invicta you say - I've never heard of them but I'll give google a look now. Thanks

I'd vote for a Citizen Eco-Drive. I got one in titanium for about $200. They last a long time and need no batteries or adjustments.

This one (but I got it cheaper through EBay): http://www.amazon.com/Citizen-BM7080...pd_sbs_watch_1

Orient is highly recommended on the various watch forums, this one looks kind of unique and the price is really good:

here's one with a less traditional shape:

I don't usually care for square dials, but that one is nice!

The reason for the rotating bezel is to measure elapsed time while diving. If you have 30 minutes of air in your tank, set the pointer at the minute hand and you can see how much time you have been down in relation to your air supply, you can also use it for general elapsed time under an hour.

Be careful of Invicta's, they have some great looking models, but quality is a little hit and miss. Orient and Seiko are some of the best watches available in your price range, and you get great service options.

A rotating bezel is a functional piece. It's how you know how long you've been under water/ diving. Invicta is cool.

    I'm just going to say

I heartily recommend the OP gets anything other than an Invicta

    and leave it at that.

I did see a nice invicta but after reading so many bad reviews about them in comparison to good reviews I'm going to leave them alone I think.

Based on what I've read over the years, you should count your blessings

Seiko and Citizen should have numerous models in your price range...and you won't have to sacrifice quality

I have that Seiko Monster in Orange. I think you are hard pressed to find a watch that solid in that price range. Having said that, here are some shots of a couple Orient watches you may like:

This one has a power reserve meter for a pretty decent price:

You said you have big wrists, so may be a Mako XL? It has a luminous face:

I have an Orient that I have had repaired three times, still does not work correctly. However, I know several people that have had tons of success with their's. I second the Eco Drive and the Seiko models suggested.

The Black Monster is my daily driver, and has been for 7 years. Outstanding watch!!

The OP may call the bezel "gimmicky", but I call it handy. I use it as a timer when grilling things at high temperature, to keep track of the clock at soccer games (since the 45 minute half is never exact because of injury time, etc., ) and everything else. So much more handy than the functions on my iPhone if I'm keeping track of less than an hour of time. It's already on my wrist...

Oh yeah, the watch is darn near bulletproof.

    Cheers!
