Default Wilkinson Sword Blades : Who uses them /have used them ?

I have not got myself a sampler pack yet, but will be in short order. Currently using Derby Extra.
In the meantime, I have some Wilkinson Swords and have an EJ 86 (using) and a Merkur 20C (yet to use).

I know that YMMV, but can you give me an impression of these blades ? How did you like them / not like them as I
would like to consider and compare experiences with other shavers. Thanks in advance.

    best John.

If you mean the Wilkinson kinds they sell at Wal-Mart,then yes, they are my regular blades and so far, they work really great for me.No complaints at all.

You should try more blades before buying one specific type. While I like the Wilkinson Sword Blades, a lot of people do not rate them favorably on the board. There is a lot out there. Try Astra SP, Feathers, Crystals.

I have used the Wilkinson's from WCS and the Wally Wilks, they are pretty good blades.

My go-to blades are Gillette Sharp Edge, Astra SP, and Lord Platinum. I've been through about 30 different blades and at this point I can shave with all but the worst blades. Technique is 90% of blade comfort.

I've been working my way through a sampler pack. So far I've tried Treet, Astra, and am now on Wilkinson Sword. WS is my favorite of the three. Next up is Persona. I may go back and give the Astras another go, since as CharlieFoxtrot says, one's technique evolves and improves, so what you may attribute to the blade is really just your improved shaving abilities.

I used the Wal-mart Swords first. I found them forgiving, and an ok shave. Low risk/low reward. When I got my sampler pack. I loved Derby's and couldn't stand Astras or Sharks. A few months down the road I can stand Derby's and love Astras and Sharks. Either way, I've found razors that deliver good and comfortable shaves with either blade. Your technique will evolve and so will your preferences.

There's a good blade in that they get the job done.
There's nothing wrong with them per se, it's just that, well Feather's are sharper, Astra's are cheaper, Gillette 7 o'clock's last longer, etc., etc.,

I'm fairly new at this, and have only tried....

    1. Merkurs that came with my razor.
    2. Wilkinson black box I got at Walmart.
    3. Shark Stainless from a sampler pack.

I like the Wilkinsons better than the Merkurs, but not as well as the Sharks.

Where do you get them? The Wilkinsons I bought were 18 cents each.

Yeah, I'll have to agree. I'm liking the Gillette 7 O'clock Super Platinums a lot. But man, are there ever a lot of really great blades out there. I know I would be hard pressed to tell whether I was shaving with a Feather or something else in blind shaving test. Hopefully, I'll never face a challenge like that. The mantra is find a complete system of hardware and software that works for you. Milder blades with cheaper creams. Sharper blades with more expensive, more lurbricating. It goes on and on.

From what I understand, there are two or more types of Wilkinson blades. I have only used the black case ones from Germany. They are great blades maybe not the smoothest, but I did enjoy using them and would be happy to use them again. To give my comment some context - I would only consider repurchasing about 50% of the blades that I have tried thus far.

I have, not bad for my face and not the best either. They worked as well as a Astra for me (my face isn't the best friend for Astra blades). Blades are a personal thing. If the Wilkinson blade works great for you, by all means use it and enjoy the cost savings.

I found that the Wilkinson blades tugged at my face so went back onto my sample pack of Astra platinums and found that these will be my choice from now on. But yes try different samples first it as worth it for me and the cost isn't to much.

Thanks everyone. I'll try the WS later on and go for samples too. Will give my impression after I've tried them out. :D

If you can get the Wilkinson blades that are made in India they are pretty good.

Being in Australia you should have good luck getting those
