Default Three Fat boys leave an antique store ...

And are they UGLY! Lol. Luckily two cleaned up really good.Found these in a thrift store by my house!
The one on the far left that looks like the incredible hulk, well its a replate candidate.
For you newbies be aware whenever you pick a razor up with as heavy green as there is on this more than likely the plating is gone and extends down to the brass. I'll post pics of that one tomorrow. Right now it's in a solution of one teaspoon of vinegar to twelve ounces of water to soak.

nice shiny restores there! The Hulk looks as if he's been sitting in the sauna (head-first it appears) somewhere for a couple too many decades.
Look forward to seeing his makeover/revival.

    Great work, Rxonmymind!

Any advice how to clean my first vintage Gillette? There are no Scrubbing Bubbles, Simple Green or other American brands where I live. So I wonder if it's possible to do that with simple household items like vinegar, baking soda etc.

P.S. It'll be at least a week till it arrives from US.

Remember it's done in incremental steps. A little near boiling water in a tin foil let it soak in some baking soda then scrub with a toothbrush then rinse to see how you've progressed. Then if you like take some vinegar and baking soda mix it together and scrub the razor. Remember never soak adjustables for extended periods of time as this will take the paint off the dial! Good luck.

Give it a long soak in hot water with dish washing soap. Then take a stiff tooth brush and scrub it down good. Then you should be good to go.

Sweet finds, wish that they had thrift stores in Belgium with old Gillettes just waiting to be found.

Thanks guys! I was totally surprised by this thrift store having anything. But hey, you don't know till you stick you neck in there!

Nice! I've got my slim adjustable now, so a fatboy is on the radar for my next purchase.

I do envy my American brothers though, it seems the adjustables didn't make much of a splash here at all :(

as mentioned in an earlier thread this is a game of reducing grime from years of neglect by increments. As you can see the green hulk is gone to be replaced by a sunset fatboy. I've managed to keep the numbers on #9 but #1 was toast. This is slowly but surely coming around. To get to this point took some 14 hours in a solution of 10% acid/90% water. Slow is the name of the game. More to come.
