Default At least i'm not the only crazy one...

Just getting started, maybe 6 weeks now? Started with with the RADS, something about the shiny cold hard metal. Bought a couple but trying to be good. Now looking at brushes and find that the Semogue 1305 will be my next purchase. Started with Proraso white, then I was trying to use hard soap (Conk's Bay Rum) and after reading lather guides still had trouble getting a lather, so went back to cream and now i like the cream. So after the brush it'll be some TOBS and Proraso green.. then i'll probably want to pick up a tech... it just doesn't end! Something about my personality loves all the variables involved and experimenting, and just taking time taking care of myself in the morning is not something i'm used to but it's greatly enjoyable. Not a 'cheap' hobby but not terribly expensive either. At least i know i'm not alone!

I know what you mean Nick. When I was looking for an alternative shave I viewed on geofatboy video. I bought my first razor the next day. The second the next day, and so on. It's nice being addicted to something like personal hygiene though. Makes the start of the day much more enjoyable.

Value is the difference between investment and return and this "thing of ours" offers much in the way of satisfaction.

LOL. Old Spice apparently makes the wife sneeze. So last night i say 'Oh, I'll try a few new kinds to find one that doesn't bother you'.. that didn't go as well as i'd hoped.

    Ha Ha!

I said the same thing to my wife last night after my shave, "since you don't particularly care for this scent we will have to find one that you enjoy".... didn't get much a reaction, which could be a good thing :). open season for me!!

Hehh. Got an Amazon gift card for doing some side work, within minutes i spent a good chunk of it on a 1305 and some Proraso cream, pre/post shave, and an alum block. Was asked bout it and my response was basically 'I narrowed it down as much as i could!'.

Welcome to B&B! You'll neve be alone with your ADs here.

Keep an eye out for guys showing photos of their shave dens. Many of us can be used as bad examples to show your wife in contrast to the amount of restraint you have shown.

Unfortunately i can't even explain myself to my wife. She's rather frugal, and in truth so am I. It's tough to use the 'cheaper per shave' argument for the collecting aspect when I've dropped maybe $200 (in gift cards for the most part) in the past few months rather than $20 or so every month on carts/foam.

You're are not alone, but shame on us for indulging in such a meaningless, yet expensive, past time!

I don't think it's meaningless. The AD's just spiral out of control!

Welcome . . . and don't feel shy about indulging yourself here. There is something very satisfying in the old Edwardian sense about the way fine steel blends with the great feeling and great smelling soaps and emollients we use.

So kick back and enjoy a good shave the way your great granddad did. He was really onto something.

Before I 'collected' shaving stuff, I was collecting guns. My pretty wife pretends to complain, but I think she's pretty happy about my change of focus.
(Nothing stops her from enjoying her gun or my shaving stuff though - she remarked the other day that her skin is much nicer now that she has "all those new creams and lotions".)

If you end up like me, the addiction will come and go just like the flu. Once you figure out what you like and don't like, you'll end up with all the best items for your needs.

You, too, huh? The ammo's certainly cheaper for razors. LOL
