Howard Hawks made a very strange romantic comedy called Man's Favorite Sport? that is set in and around Abercrombie and Fitch.

What happened to the stores in between bankruptcy and takeover by The Limited? I remember buying some very nice sporting gear in 1983 at an A&F in the (now nearly defunct) Georgetown Park Mall. As I recall, they were still very much the kind of place you would go if you were putting together a safari.

well in 1976, Abercrombie & Fitch filed chpater 11 closing its flagship Manhattan store in 1977. The name A&F was revived shortly thereafter in 1978–79 Oshmen a Houston-based chain bought A&F name and mailing list. Oshman's relaunched A&F as a mail-order retailer specializing in hunting wear and novelty items. It also opened shops in Beverly Hills, Dallas, and by the mid-1980s New York City. In 1988, Oshman's sold the company name and operationsto The Limited, a clothing-chain operator from Ohio.

The current version of A&F sells mostly clothes instead of pith helmets or elephant guns, and describes its retailing niche as "Casual Luxury".

Oh, they still promote "elephant guns"...with lots of homo-erotic and pedophillic advertising. The 2007 Christmas catalogue drew some warranted heat, IIRC. I used to tease my daughter's boyfriend about shopping at Abercrombie's B**ch.

Well the auction that precipitated this thread is over. It ultimately sold for $330. There were some truly impressive snipers that showed up in the last minute. What a beautiful razor.

And that's why we don't want folks talking about ebay sales before they are done.
It isn't right, it isn't sporting, and if anyone was under the impression that just mentioning a sale on ebay without giving any details prevents people from knowing which sale it is, here's proof positive they are wrong.

Amen brother. There was a great wailing and gnashing of teeth in my den when I saw this post show up. My wallet and I can't tangle with the collectors.

I have found too many times we end up shooting ourselves in the proverbial foot by posting threads like this before auctions end. It helped no one save any money, I promise.
I myself was not happy this was broadcast before the end of the auction. And, throwing up pics form the actual ad itself was certainly the swan song.

Haha. No I had no part in the bidding war. Way too steep for me. I didn't realize this razor was such a big deal. Wish I never started this thread. And for the record I made no mention of any auction or seller.

Good grief! If I ask a question on this forum about a red tip is every one who happens to be bidding on one gonna get their panties in a twist?

You can ask a question. Just don't do it about a live eBay auction. You need to wait until the auction ends.

From the B&B Terms of Usage:

    ...
    6. To prevent abusive advertisement, no member shall direct other members, either through direct hotlink or indirectly through comments or other means, to any live e-Bay auctions or other auction sites.

Do not post URLs, item numbers, or seller IDs or any similar information unless that e-Bay auction has a "buy it now" price or is contained within an e-Bay storefront.

Members should also use good judgment in posting information that may reference specific active auctions, particularly if the extra attention drawn to it would be unwanted by other members who may be bidding.

Please feel free to discuss eBay auctions only after they are closed.

    I hear you.
But at the same time I wonder, what is a person to do when they see a razor that they might want to bid on, but know nothing about?
Who can they ask, if asking gets them in trouble?
