Try just a pure carb drink immediately after. Universal Nutrition makes a good one called Carbo Plus and NOW makes a multidextrose drink, both inexpensive. Also just a solid protein meal after is always great.

Vega makes a really good post-workout recovery drink (as well as pre-workout and during-workout stuff) and they're all natural and plant based so no harmful chemicals and the like! I enjoy them!

I started doing this years ago, and if you believe in having dextrose as part of your recovery, this is the cheapest and best way that I have found. Scratch that, buying a tub of powdered gatorade instead of the bottled stuff is the most cost efficient. Throw in some creatine and you have a great recovery shake. Taking BCAA's separately from your whey has it's own argument supported by science, but it is another powder to throw money at, so if youre looking to budget, this is the one that I'd suggest. There are arguments about whether or not you need fast acting carbs post workout, or if complex is the best bet, but in my experience I've never felt more satiated than with the gatorade, whey, and creatine blend. And for the love of God, never waste your money on Cell Tech.

Chocolate milk is a terrible idea. Fats are the last thing you want immediately following a workout. Lactose is not the sugar you are looking for here if youre looking for a fast acting insulin. It is lower on the glycemic index, and takes a different pathway to convert to glucose than other, simpler sugars. Don't get me wrong, I've used milk to save on the amount of whey powder and to up the taste, but whey is cheaper than milk per serving.

These days being paleo, I don't use milk or gatorade. I opt to get my sugar from other whole sources following a workout, usually bananas.

    I agree 100% on the cell-tech :D
The choc milk I don't. A few universities have done studies showing the benefits. My personal recommendation would be palatinose, but it's not a "go grab at gnc" type product

A lot of times diabetic drugs are used as nutrient partitioners. Many of my clients were using metformin. You'd be surprised to know that insulin is 10X more anabolic than testosterone and 1000x more deadly. However, when your career is competing, you spend years on research, tweaking, etc.

He's actually pretty healthy except for lots of injuries and surgeries. As much gear that this guy was on he needed all of that to keep him alive.

insulin and hgh is one of the most anabolic mixes you can make. I wouldn't touch insulin under no circumstance though, one screw up and you're never waking up.

I had a buddy here in northern pa who fell asleep, went hypo, woke up, stumbled down the street to 7-11 and stuck his head under the slurpee machine.

That was the last time he pinned alone.

To get back on track (sorry for the derail), with the price of leucine getting sky-high, a whey shake post is your best bet. I like the aminos route personally, but people wind up with 2hrs between finishing training and a solid meal is rough

I typically mix up a scoop of whey with 10 oz water and 1/4 cup oats. Protein, carbs, good to go.

+2. I love chewing oats that have had a few minutes to soak up a really good protein
