    Default Quink

So, is Quink the Modern Williams of inks - easily obtained, well priced, workmanlike at best, coasting on it's previous reputation? Or is it Vintage Williams - a fantastic product that you can't believe is just sitting on shelves and you need to grab right away?

I thought the only thing that had changed was the bottle (the older being the better), but I could be wrong.

I think it's the same product as always.... the question is whether it's worth buying ;)

Sure. It's a no nonsense ink. Does what it says on the label. Not as fancy as some other brands, but if you just want a basic blue or black...

It's a nice free-flowing ink, although no longer made in the good old USA (France). I use a lot of the blue, it is a standard ink I use in testing repaired pens and is well-behaved and washes out easily.

The blue tends to fade a bit over time with certain paper. Smells like old-fashioned ink too!

    The blue-black is great.

I've got the Blue-Black in a couple of pens and like the way it looks. I guess I've used the black, too, since my first fountain pen ink was the cartridge that came with my Parker IM.

The only thing I don't care for is that it's not all that water resistant. This was something I didn't pick up on right away with fountain pen inks, how some of them will wash right off a page. My ideal is an ink that will barely run if I hold a test page under a faucet. By that standard, the Quink doesn't do all that well. Still, most of my writing isn't likely to get soaked.

I'm a fan of Williams, both ancient and modern, by the way.

I have some black Quink I found sitting on the bottom rack at Staples a while back. Nice enough glass bottle, but nothing special. I don't have a ton of ink experience, but this is what I think of when people say "standard". It's going to seem a tad desaturated compared to, say, Noodler's - but as Nemo said, it rinses clean quite easily. Writes nicely, behaves well on a good variety of paper. It's a nice ink.

I found an almost full, old bottle of Quink forgotten in a drawer in... my house! I think that I bought it 20 or 25 years ago! Here's a photo:

    It works perfectly.

The Quink black is my black ink. Works great, and as mentioned already it washes out easily.

OK, arm fully twisted! I just picked up some Washable Blue.
First couple lines written with a Hero 330 seem to bear out the comments above - it writes well, but seems a little 'underdone' compared to some other inks. Either way, I needed a blue in my lineup, this should do just fine.
