Red face Off To Amsterdam? This should be Interesting!!! :-D

Off To Amsterdam? This should be interesting a Washington Post article! Although the Mrs. and I loved our trips to Amsterdam (the Rijksmuseum, the Rembrandt Museum, the Anne Frank House, the Canals of Amsterdam, shopping and the restaurants), my advice is to stay clear of the Coffee Houses (now off limits to purchase for foreigners/tourists), unless you're 'into' those pursuits.

I really don't know how they are going to enforce the new laws. I was just there for queens day, it was an experience and I do recommend the Red Light District, if for nothing else then to gawk at the craziness that is Amsterdam.

I have some fond, not too clear memories of a weekend in Amsterdam.

No loss to me personally, but I do wonder about the widespread social effects of this law

I love Amsterdam..... Have not been in almost 10 years now. I am sure the coffee shop bans will take a bit more effort than they think. I guess they will just have more people smoking on the streets.

Lived in Holland for a couple of years. Hardly ever went to Amsterdam, the first time I did I remember close to nothing. The second time while sightseeing with a friend from Oz, I started to remember bits and pieces.
I am not too fond of Amsterdam though, been to much nicer cities in Holland.

If you look hard, you may find tubs of wonderful SANDERS SCHEERZEEP. It should be very cheap, but a great shaving soap with a wonderful scent.

Re: the law change in regards to coffee shops, the main impetus for the change seems to have been not so much tourists enjoying a smoke in a coffee shop but residents of Belgium and Germany coming over the border to acquire "product" and then returning home to illegally "deal" in it. Though it's not my thing, as usual it has been the actions of a few that have ended up spoiling things for many.

The border towns like Emmen already had their own laws regarding coffeeshops. If you didn't have Dutch identification, you were not allowed in.
